Wow. Sorry about you accident. About 20 years ago I was snowblowing our driveway with a 420 with a single stage snowblower. I was making good time and was blowing past the dog house and the golden retriever housed there was deathly afraid of the snowblower. He was at the end of his very 25' heavy chain in the opposite direction. All of a sudden the snowblower started jumping aroung and grinding and pulling the dog toward it. The dog had all four brakes on and I got the thing shut off with about 3' to spare. It took me half a day to pull that chain out. Prior to that I was a little careless with people and animals around. I learned a good lesson there and so did my dog.

I bet your dog left some skid marks in the snow and I don't think they were white:cool:

All of us guys with new tractors with safety switches everywhere love to complain but lets face facts, they are there for a reason. Hope the recovery goes well.

Thankfully you have the fingers to mend.
My front blower spins 2000 RPM and the tractor will not run if off the seat. I also hit idle before starting or stopping the blower. Dogs always in house, people well away and all has been good so far.
Thanks for the reminder that accidents do happen when you are not on task. Also I hope the kids were fine in the house alone up to that point.

Brave of you to share your mistake and the consequences. Thanks for posting and I hope you heal quickly and completely. Many of our machines and tools are dangerous and it's great when people can remind us to be careful! but it's of course very sad to hear of someone getting hurt.

This is the X-ray of the fingers just to drive the safety reminder home .

Wow, that was close. (to being worse)

that pic would make a very interesting avatar, i'm sure
it would bring up a lot of questions and keep your reminder
about safety in front of a lot more people.

and thanks for posting. you have to know somebody will
benefit from it, that will probably save a lot of fingers!

Especially if the X-ray showed no fingers where they were supposed to be!

Hope you heal up soon and completly. Like others have said, thanks for telling your story. I imagine it will be a tough few weeks with the use of only one hand. They will probably recomend a little rehab to get things started when it has healed up some.

It takes a brave man to share his mistakes. (We all make em). Thanks for the reminder of safety. As much as we like to think it won't happen to "us" , stories like this should make a wise man think and remember to stay focused.
Hoping for a full recovery.

When the little voice in your head says,

"DON'T DO IT. YOU'RE GONNA GET BIT."

Listen carefully, and obey the little voice.
Don't ask me how I know.:D

I think my little voice was off getting coffee or going p this particular moment LOL Oh and just FYI the boys were fine in the house my 7 year old was a rock star handling the situation.

Thanks for the post and best of luck with your recovery. It is a great reminder and refresher for all of us on safety, it can never be stressed enough as to how fast something can go wrong. Think all of us can remember instances where we had an "almost" but walked away unscathed.
Heal fast...

I'd add to keeping pets and children inside keeping a eye out for pedestrians and kibitzers.

I was working with my BH, with just a few hours in the seat, when my tenant's boyfriend sauntered along the side of the tractor and walked right past the BH. He was well within the arc of the boom and I could have really done him some harm if I had't see him at the last moment.

I didn't like him before, and I sure didn't like him more after that.
