John Deere 310D
Hi,

I currently have a 1996 John Deere 310D, which is equipped with a cooler that has 3 coolers in one for the hydraulics. The bottom cooler (not sure what it is for) started to leak. I took the cooler to the local Radiator shop and asked if they could repair it. They said they could not as the leak was in a spot difficult to get to without possibly causing damage to the cooler above it. He suggested either getting a new cooler or by passing it with a standalone cooler.

Can you by pass with a generic transmission cooler? It looks like there are only 2 loops in that cooler, so I think possible a smaller standalone cooler may work. Does anyone know what this cooler is connected to? I think the top cooler is for the hydraulic and the middle cooler is the transmission, but not sure what the bottom (3rd) cooler is for??

Thanks,
Pete

:welcome:
Looks like the lower is connected to the transmission by the schematic for the 310D.

Hey beenthere,
Thanks for the information, that will save me from trying to trace the line. Is there a site you can look at schematics for this model of tractor/backhoe?

Do you know if a regular transmission cooler could substitute that cooler, the other coolers look in perfect shape?

Does anyone know what the reverser is used for? Perhaps the reverser could be substituted and use that cooler for tha transmission? I checked with a local dealer on a new cooler and it was $1400.00. I was looking for a cheaper solution as it is just for doing personal landscaping.

Thanks,
Peter

Go to jdparts and do the free registration. Then sign in and go to the parts catalog. Look up your model number 310 and get to an alphabetic listing, or other options. Not a repair manual, but shows the parts and numbers. Great resource for any Deere owner.
Here is what the home page will look like, and the arrow where to click. See kennyd profile for good info too.

I couldn't answer the ?? about the cooler being adequate. If there is room, I wouldn't see why not. Prolly cheaper than a new one from Deere.

Hi beenthere,

Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated. I saw that site already and signed up, but I did not see anything as I don't think I clicked on the parts catalog. This will be very useful. :)

Thanks Again,
Pete

You might want to check tractor salvage yards for a used one. They may even have networked search services like the automotive yards.

Sanel Auto Parts has a new cooler with 1/2 inch connectors.Check your local auto parts store
