My wife is a bus driver in pa but they can't be left off at that age.
I'm not sure but it is Like 11 or 12 for them to be left off by them selves.
Some of the schools have before and after care and the Y provides it too around here it costs but is the only choice.
She started driving bus when we had our tribe and she took them on the bus with her now she has the grand kids with her.

It is the same here in Central Ohio. Although an older sibling can meet the younger ones at the road.

I hate to say it, but for us the only decision would be for one of us to change our work hours, get a different job or quit. I know that everyone is not fortunate to be able to stay at home with the kids like my wife does, but we would live in a tent before having someone else raise our children. I am not trying to pass judgement, just the way we view it. My wife is an accountant and choose to stay home, our kids are now 5 and 7. She started a sitting business from our home watching local children during the day and that allows us extra money that is appreciated. Good luck wiht your decision

It is hard to say it, but Benbovac is right. Step back with your wife and think, what is important in life and what do we need to do. The correct answer is not necessarily the easy one. I think schmism has a possibility that I wouldn't have thought of.

Had a friend in high school who lived in another district. His parents bought a small house in our district so my friend and his younger brother could go to our school for a couple different reasons. He had an older sister who moved into the home and paid some amount of rent. Their situation was a bit different, as their sons were old enough to fend for themselves when they did this (I think we were in 7th grade when this happened).

Anyway, you might want to look into becoming a landlord. Only problem could be if your tenants have school age children and the school notices 2 different sets of children with the same address. The other problem is that the school now knows you don't live in their district and might be watching for you.

This is what a lot of our parents do at the school I work at. They use their grandparents mailing address and that way they can continue to attend our school. Its a rough situtation, and its difficult, and some districts actually have people who check on residency.

I don't want to come off as "goody two shoes," but I think honesty is the best policy. IMO, that behavior is not ethical, is probably illegal, and increases the tax burden of the folks in your district. Also, I don't think it sets a good example for the kids involved.

Just my :2cents:

I feel your pain...I drove over 30 miles a day to take my grand daughter to school until my Son and his wife could build next to us...enlist the grandparents and extended family..you have to do what you have to do...to take care of your own. Just my 2 cents.

Basically, you want to skirt the system. Can't blame you. Times are tough. However, the tax payers of the other school district are the ones you will be cheating. They pay taxes for their schools, not yours. The only honest thing to do is either move to that district or pay the out of district fees.

I am not looking to cheat anybody. We just need to send them to the other school. We are looking to move that direction someday but the economy has really put a kink in our plans...
