It has been snowing/storming for 3 days. State of Emerg has been declared. Military has been called in. 402 a major highway between London & Sarnia has been closed. Traffic in bound from Port Huron michigan is being diverted. 300 + vehicles have been stranded along the 402 for 2 days. The drifts are over 6 feet deep. The snow in front of the garage where the Kubota is over four feet deep and the 3 pt blower is outside beside a 5 foot drift. I predict there will be a little shoveling in my future. Police & plows have been pulled off the roads. EMS is on a delayed response. I'm surprised the pager hasn't gone off yet. Snow bound in Lambton shores, Lambton county

Kubota's inside the garage nice & dry w/ the front end plow and box scraper. Will have to swap the box scraper for the blower in the snow. Not looking forward to that job.

I used to drive 402 between Pt Huron and the 401 and then on to the QEW and to Buffalo just about every week in days gone by. In my favorite car at the time: a 1973 Corvette, cobalt blue.

It's the middle of December; why isn't the blower on the tractor

At least the plow is on the tractor already. Somebody's gonna get some serious seat time!

A quick hitch would make it easier.

Don't let your car get run over...

In '55 or '56(before my time...), my Grandparents lived in Herlong, Ca. There is a an Army munitions depot there. Over the summer, my high school aged Uncled had tricked out a '40's Merc. Engine, interior, lake pipes, paint. They really lacked parking at home, so they parked on the street at the house in this little tiny town.

Well, they got record snow that winter. Folsom Lake, outside Sacramento, was almost finished, and was expected to take two years to slowly fill. Try less than a week... What is now Interstate-80 over Donner Summit, was then US-40. closed six weeks; nowdays it may close for a couple hours in terrible weather.

Well, Herlong got record type snow. And at an Army base, what sometimes comes out on the local roads(at least back then)?

Tanks...

Guess what ran right over the top of my Uncles tricked out car that they had saved for and spent all summer working on?

A tank...

Guess how flattened said car was...?

On sunday I washed and cleaned the suv, washed the walk behind blower, washed the box blade and gave the walk behind chute & auger a coat of fluid film and coated the box scraper. Not expecting the storm to turn on and leave on the lake effect snow machine. The box scraper usually does fine until mid to late winter, not this year. Located just outside of Northville.

Lots a luck with the military coming to help. Remember that ice storm that the east got a few years back? Well a military spokesperson said that the military personal weren't allowed to use chainsaws to clear out all of the broken and fallen trees because they had not been trained to handle them safely. So it was axes and buck saws for our stalwart army boys and girls.

Gee they get to play with guns and cannons and all manner of things that go BOOM, but not something that virtually every farmer or person that heats with wood uses after reading the manual that came with the saw. Makes yuh kinda wonder.

Just hope that we are never attacked by beavers, cuz like then we are so screwed.:)

Hope you dig out ok.

Makes you wonder why they didnt use grenades to clear the trees. Seems like it would be much more fun

When I lived in Indiana in the 70's, we had a great blizzard in 1977. Since the northern half of the state is FLAT, when the winds blow from the west, the north-south roads would get drifted shut. I can remember that the Ind. National Guard sent tanks out to rescue folks stuck on n-s Interstate 65. And, interestingly, when the counties plowed out the local roads, the n-s ones must have had vertical walls of snow 8-10' high in places. One county would plow up to the last farmer at the north end of a road, and stop. The county to the north would plow out to their southernmost farmer, and stop. Of course, after a week or so, they came back and opened things up, but it was a mess for a while. I have memories of getting picked up by a giant Mack State plow truck when I slide my VW bus into a snowbank on one of the interstates, and riding in a nice warm cab, about 10' above the road, running at maybe 50 mph with a 12' wide plow in front of us moving whatever it encountered. The driver had been at it for many hours, living on coffee and cigarettes, and he was full of stories about plowing incidents.

3 hours seat time. Hooked up the blower and tackled the rock solid drifts. More snow on the way. A few more action pics.
