Does anyone have an hardware store near them? I'm so happy that a hardware/industrial store opened about a mile down the road from me, so I can walk or ride my bike. I better watch it or I'll be going down everyday...:confused2:

Depends on how you define "near". None within 25 minutes, but We have Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware all within 30 minutes.

Probably better for our budget that there's some distance from the house to town...

I have one about 12 miles from me. I just bought $300.00 worth of clothes from them last month. When I poured my drive I bought my wire and rebar from them, for 35% less than Home Depot.

Use to visit one when living in Alameda Ca. Old family run store. Parking was a problem.

Yes and no. Our house in town is just a 5 min walk from a large hardware/home center. Our farm is more like 16 miles from the nearest hardware store.

I guess when it comes down to it, neither one is very far.

Also depends on how how you define hardware store. Where you can still buy a single bolt or nut. Nails by the pound, and the people who work there don't have to call someone else to answer a simple question? Yes, and it isn't home depot or lowes. We have a real hardware store where I live where even the kids working there usually don't have to call for help and if they do it is because they really don't know and will try to find someone that doe's. The owner or manager that will need to call someone monday and to your amazement will really call you back and tell you where you can get it even if it is their competetor. Few and hard to find, but yes, where I live we still have one and I support them any time I can.

We have a little neighborhood hardware store about 6 blocks from us. Great asset to the neighborhood.

The old hardware store I went to closed a couple of years ago. It was one of those places where as you entered the door you thought you were back 100 years in history.

The walls were lined from floor to ceiling with different sized oak front drawers. If you didn't see what you needed on display all you had to do was ask the owner for what you wanted and he'd go over to one of the drawers, open it and out would come just what you had a need for.

The owner died a few years back and no one ever reopened this "majic" place.

Been around 150 years or there abouts, 56 with current owner. Great place, with all the little things you'd never find at the box stores.

We have an Ace that is less than 1/2 a mile as the crow flies, probably 1 1/2 miles driving. Ace isn't quite the old time hardware store that has been refered to, but much closer to one than Home Depot, Lowes, or even Orchard Supply, and the employees really try to help. When I was growing up Orchard Supply was a small, family owned chain, before they were bought buy Sears and then K-Mart, they used to be able to answer questions and actually help you, anymore I try to avoid their help.

When I lived in town I had 3 neighbors that seamed to think I was the hardware store, but they never paid. Glad I moved away!

I need to travel 12 miles to get to a Hardware Hank store. We had 2 stores in town years ago, I sure miss them!

Seeing a question like that is about like someone asking if anyone has a gas station or a grocery store near them:laughing:... I didnt know that hardware stores were only in certain parts of the country....

there are at least 6 hardware" stores with in 6 miles of where i live and none of them are a box store. I love it. they might not sell dishwashers and stoves but they have any "hardware" you can imagine

There is one in Memphis TN that has a fastener department that I can't think of words to describe. The owner told me he has the largest selection in southeast.

I'm not talking about big national home centers. I'm talking about small mom & pop stores. Around my area it seems like they are going extinct...

That's a pretty good description of a REAL hardware store. At my local Lowe's store, you can still buy a single bolt, as long as it's a coarse thread! (they don't stock fine threads at all)

Have a great family owned hardware store in town about 22miles from home, the second time anyone goes in there, the owner would call them by name and he knew where every piece was in the store. Sells chainsaws and string trimmers and has a shop in back for repairs. Has everything from shoes and appliances to bib overalls and if a particular model of appliance is not in the store, he'll have it for you in a couple of days an no shiipping charge added. A real nice place to go in and just hang around. Well that's changing, he ran for county judge executive and won by a big margin. Now we have politics screwing up a perfectly good hardware store.
