Tractor
kioti ck20s
I just bought a 5' box blade on Fri and used it for about 4 or 5 hrs. Everything worked great. Later on that night I went out to start working on a new part of the road. everything was working fine then I noticed the tractor seemed to be bogging down more, I just thought I was losing traction . It was dark so I couldn't really see much so I packed it in for the night.

Next morning, back at it. As soon as I started pulling I knew something was wrong. The tractor could barely pull the BB without spinning the rear tires, I checked to make sure I was in 4wd. The front tires were not spinning with the rears. I took the bb off and put on the rear blade, same problem, will barely pull the blade, even in loose soil, without spinning the rear tires.

I lifted the front and spun the tires, the differential seemed to work but not always. It seemed like I could make one wheel turn without the other turning. I put the bucket flat and moved slowly fwd while lifting the fronts off the ground, at first the front seemed to be turned under power, the second time they didn't turn.

I bought the BB from the same dealer I bought the tractor from and asked a few times if the tractor could handle that size, he said it could. I always work in low range, stop to shift, never force the shift but move the tractor a little to let it slip into gear.

Anyway, off to the mechanic, hope it is not too expensive if it turns out to be misuse.
Any similar experiences?

Does the 4wd engagement lever feel normal? How old is the tractor and much 4wd use? Maybe engagement has never been right and its started popping out. Maybe the linkage just now got bent by a piece of debris ...

110 hrs, I checked the lever, it seemed OK. I even had to ease the tractor a little to get it to shift, as usual. I use 4wd alot but shift it out if I'm just moving around. It feels right when it engages just seems like no power to front wheels

Lately I've been hearing a whirring sound, like the sound misaligned gears make, from the front end. Only when in 4wd and only when the gears were loaded, ex..going up hill or loaded bucket and that was occasional. But it did prompt me to check the front axle oil which was a bit low (I added 0.5 lt to top it up).

Sounds like a warranty issue. Good luck.

this same thing happened to me twice it broke the front axel carrier

yep it only had 40 hrs on it and at 50 hrs it broke again it has a whole new front end in it now , but with the back hoe on I don't use 4wd at all , the first time it broke I had box blade on and the second time I had bush hog I know that the axel carrier is very small and they were back ordered maybe they are having some issues with the front ends in these little tractors???

Geez, has the tractor been OK since? Man, I hope I don't get started in one of those loops, fixing the same problem several times.

I have only had it back a couple of weeks since but i am being super careful of the front end

Things break, just cause they break, but don't think these smaller tractors are big enough for backhoes and digging with fel work,,also believe you gotta be selective when useing 4wd,,unless you got kinda a loose or slick surface, probably shouldn't be pulling or pushing much in 4wd. Theres always a weak link somewheres, and you'll find it if you try hard enough.

We're a little confused about what is being said here. Maybe we missed it, but was the KIOTI tractor model ever posted. Not sure, but doesn't seem like this post can be based on a similar problem if we don't know the model. We are also not sure what an "axle carrier" is to brake. Take a good look at the front axle mount of the KIOTI tractors.... if really you happen to have one.

ck 20 is the model the axel carrier is what the dealer described it and left the part , it bolts to the side of the carrier and has splines to drive the axel , if it has another name I dont know but mine broke twice

I always thought using 4wd made it easier on the running gear, distributing the load, so to say.

I have only used the 4WD a few times in the 256 hours I have had my CK35. Rather have the rear tires spin than bend or break something if I happen to hit something. When clearing snow a couple of years ago I did suspect there was a stump under the snow, pushed up against it and the rear tires just spun. Rather have that then whack into something.

I never run on pavement in 4wd. You can feel the extra force it takes to turn while locked up. Always in the dirt and only as long as I need it.

4x4 is meant to be used and should not be affraid to use it

I do not use unless I need it but I always use it when I need it

In theory dry pavement should not be a huge issue as the axle is not locked with that said if have wheels fully turned and you have full load and you are in low and pushing imovable object you are asking for something to let go

I try not to be affraid of using my machines to do what they are designed to do

I can not imagine my tractor breaking when pulling a box blade in 4x4 on almost any surface

the last time mine broke I was in 4wd using the bushhog in the field, it got hung up, and when I lifted the hog( bang) no 4wd, not like i was spinning all fours up in the air and dropped it, but I bought a hoe for it and now I rarly use 4wd, I am almost afraid to,

Twenty five years now owning a compact tractor and I've very rarely ever taken it out of 4wd and never had an issue and I'm no angel when there is something in my way.
