I keep a paper clip lying around for that kind of thing. There is a small hole in front of most CD drives that you can use a paper clip to open the drawer.

Dan,
From what I have heard, the fiber optic is only run on the main trunk. The drop to each house is regular cat 6 (I think). Also, you must be within 3000 ft of the fiber optic "box" to get Uverse. Our new house will be +/- 3000 ft so I am not sure if we can get it. At lest, I know we can get dsl.

In some place companies are running fiber directly to houses. They run fiber to a box that will serve a number of houses then more fiber is run from the box to terminate at the house. If they would just drop a box half way into our subdivision we could all have fiber.:D But we ain't in one of those places. :(

That is weird, Our electric power went of Sat morning for about 1 1/2 hours with no storms in the area.(just before lunch) In a 5 minute time period the power surged on and off 15 times. I am glad I have battery backups on all my computers. Ken Sweet

That happened tome a few weeks ago, cost me a new computer! I have a battery backup ---NOW.

I'm still on dial-up, good old AT&T won't upgrade their equipment here, so DSL isn't available.:mad: My only other options are satellite (too expensive) or cable (Suddenlink) & I hate to pay them anymore than I already pay! :( Probably have to go with cable someday. ~~ grnspot110

Well, it happened again overnight last night. This morning I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with CenturyLink getting my Internet connection restored. They were very courteous, efficient, and promised me that they would "escalate" this issue because it was the identical problem as last time. The representative was very apologetic for my problems and very helpful. She said they would try to make sure I didn't have this problem again. I'm not happy it went down, but I sure can't complain about their customer service.:)

My biggest problem here is with good old AT&T, our phone line runs though a creek bottom about a half mile from our house (main line to several houses). There is a junction box in the bottom that is at ground level, in the flood plain! :( The creek gets out over the junction box at least once/year. AT&T can't seem to figure out that dirty water & electricity don't mix! :confused2:

My dial-up speed drops from 28 kbs to ?bps, unusable. ~~ grnspot110

I sure don't want a "smartmeter", where the utility tracks my every usage of power, and can turn you off remotely. nope, I want "dumbmeter".

would you like Government Motors to track everywhere and how fast you drive your car? O yeh, they do with Onstar.
