I know 3 other people who would likely consider an 18v Ryobi superior to a 28v Milwaukee cordless. Man, those are pure losers for Milwaukee; and this is from a Milwaukee fan.
The funny part is Ryobi and Milwaukee are both owned by the same company:laughing:

Same company also owns AEG, Dirt Devil, Hoover and Homelite too.

As for the high dollar stuff, as I said I'm completely happy with my Ryobi stuff and since I can and do own multiples of the same tool for the same money it is kinda handy, at times I may have two drills chucked up with two different bits so I don't have to keep unchucking and chucking up the other bit:dance1:

Are they really?! I didn't know that. Every dang 28v Milwaukee cordless tool I've used has been gutless and those 28v batteries lose their charge like nobody's business when they are just sitting on the truck. My DeWalt, Bosch, Makita and Porter Cable lithium ion batteries will hold a full charge at least a month (about the longest I've had one sit after a charge) whereas the Milwaukee 28v batteries will all be dead. I've sent so many back to Milwaukee only to have the same result that I gave up on them. Can't say I have any Milwaukee 18v stuff though. Maybe they are the same as the "cheapo" Ryobi and would impress the heck outta me. I'm tellin' ya, those "recon" Ryobi (cheap version of a cheap tool) are just plain beasts; especially for the price!
i got a ryobi 18v combo set yesterday. for $100 i got the drill/driver and a small trim saw (5 1/2" circular saw) with 2 batteries and charger and a tool bag. everything with LI batteries was much more. but it looks like i could go LI without having to buy new tools, just the battery and charger.

I like Dewalt. They've given years of reliable service. Get something that's at least 18v w/ a lithium-ion battery. Make sure you like the tool line of what brand you pick. That way you only have to have 1 or 2 batteries for a bunch of tools. One thing I like about Dewalt is that they made there new lithium-ion batteries compatible with all of there older Ni-cad tools, so no need to buy new tools.

I'm a Makita guy and have been using them for a few years now. I use them just about every day, and some days, all day long. The impact driver is just amazing. They even sell drill bits that work with them now too, so I rarely even use my drill. Right now, I'm using my cordless drill to mix joint compound. It's also great for mixing grout. Otherwise, the only time I use my cordless drill is for drilling really big holes.
I have four batteries and think that is about the minimum for me. While all four are working good right now, I've been thinking about buying a couple more. I get about two years out of a battery and know it's about time for two of them to start to fail on me.

No they are not.
I have 4 of the DeWalt 18v flashlights that don't have the long twisty neck on them and the LI batteries will NOT fit those flashlights. They will fit the flex neck DeWalt flashlights, but I generally like using the others better. Since cheapo Ryobi makes a clone to the DeWalt 18v flashlight I like, I bought some of those to go with my "recon" Ryobi setup. I now prefer their flashlights over DeWalt since DeWalt screwed up and didn't make the new LI battery compatible with their model flashlight I like.
It depends on how much you want to do. I have the DeWalt 36 volt that I got new on ebay relatively cheap. Wow! This thing runs my drill/driver, circular and reciprocating saws and I'm looking for a jig saw but you cant get the jig saw bare (not battery).
The batteries last and charge in an hour. This is the best 1/2 Hammer drill/ driver I've ever owned. I beat these things up all day long.
