I think we should not lump the metric system with immigration. Different issues. The metric system is simple and easy to learn. The immigration problem...not so simple!

Immigration problem is very simple. Control the border, provide for lawful way to get a guest worker card and penalize business that knowingly hire illegals. Immigration reform is all about politics. Why should we punish the employers?

In my mind if the people are here I should be able to hire them, lets just keep them out from the beginning.

My sister in law is a lawyer from Stockholm (Sweden) licensed to practice in the EU. She passed the NY bar on the first try.

To come to this country she had to provide:

1) A letter from the chief of police from the last five cities she lived in (although there were only two) stating that she had no criminal record to show that she was not a threat to US citizens.
2) A letter from her prospective employer offering her a position of employment so that she would not be a financial burden on the USA.
3) A letter from my brother assuming responsibility for all health care/medical costs so that she would not be a financial burden on the USA.
4) Five years of bank records to show that she had means so that she would not be a financial burden on the USA.
5) Records of medical exams/immunizations so that she would not bring diseases into the USA and jeopardize US citizens.

DON'T GET ME GOING ON THIS ONE--THOSE SOUTH OF THE BORDER GET A PASS--THOSE FROM EUROPE GET THE THIRD DEGREE

In 1963, I had to apply for a Secret Clearance. There was a litany of questions on the DD398. Among which were: Every place I'd ever lived; right down to the exact address, Every organization I had ever belonged to. Especially important, they wanted to know if I was a member of the Communist Party, or was associated with anyone in the Communist Party.

They really wanted to know if I had any intentions of overthrowing the U.S. Government. I checked out as approved, and was given the job of Secret Yeoman.

I doubt Barry O could honestly fill out the application, and be approved for any kind of clearance. I think the name Bill Ayers might not go over too well as an associate of the psuedo prez.
