Rural Road Names.

Anyone have interesting or funny rural road names in your area? We have been traveling the county lately looking at examples of the work some local loggers do as we select someone to log a timber stand my MIL owns. A couple that have made me smile are "BOOGER HOLLOW RD." and "BOOZE MOUNTAIN RD."

Well, we have "Whiskey Springs Rd", "Hornets Nest Road", and one that I've always thought was odd "Water Street Road".

Possum Trot Road and Swamp Hollow Road are a couple near by. Ken Sweet

I live near the euphonious "Quail Trail." Others must like it too: as I recall, the street sign has been stolen at least once.

Turnip Lane and Feed Store Road are two that come to mind near me. Turnip Lane runs by a huge turnip farm and at the end of Feed Store Road is a feed store, of course.

With the implementation of the 911 system years ago...the county now provides signs for all the roads (many of which are really shared driveways)...and the county allowed the residents to name the previously un-named roads...I'm sure other places do the same...

Recently there was a blurb in the local paper about tourists stealing signs with unique names..."Possum Trot" was one that was mentioned...as well as 'Slop Bucket Road'

We visited my nephew in Mississippi a few years back and all the roads in his area were named after someone who lived on them. Not just their last name either, it was first and last name. Always seemed kind of odd to me.

'Skunk's Misery Road' and 'Johnnycake Hollow Road' in my town.

In Ringwood, NJ there's a Snake Den Road.
Down here we have Sinking Creek Road, Shoestring Trail and Snake Hollow Road.

Not rural but suburban, in Harahan LA between Hickory and Dickory they named a street Dock St and they placed a sign at the beginning of the street showing a mouse running up a clock.

It got stolen so many times that they decided not to replace it.

Amazing. There's a Skunk Misery Lane in Higganum, CT too.

Annoying method around here. Where a road is due N, S, E or W, it gets a number, Ave. or St., but when it angles or curves, it get a name. So one road may have many names and numbers, changing whenever it changes direction.

Around here we have Tumble Down Dick Road and down the road about 30 miles is the road Muchardo Dr right next to About Nothing Lane. (Much ado about nothing) :laughing:

In Covington, the 1st Baptist Church is on Bootlegger Rd.
