Z-Force 50 Hour meter froze HH8.7

I just recently noticed my digital hour meter was no longer flashing when the ignition was on and the display read: HH8.7

Is this some type of error code, or trouble code? Or did the meter just give out and this is the random display that it is stuck on?

I'm guessing I have around 150 hours on this mower. I bought it new in 2006.

I recently began mowing an extra acre each week that is fairly rough. Could the bouncing have caused the meter to go bad?

Sounds like the meter is shot. I know the meter on my 2010 ZF doesn't offer any maintenance codes or dummy lights. Mine stays lit all the time, but only counts when the ignition is on (little icon starts flashing on it) Maybe check the wiring to the meter.

This was my guess as well, but I did read in my manual where it says it will flash "Oil" or "Lube" periodically. However, I've never noticed if it did flash those messages.

The wires leading to it apear fine. I will likley look at them again.

I was hoping someone had information regarding re-setting (assuming it wasn't shot).

Is there a manufacturer name or model number on the meter you can Google? A call or email to the manufacturer might yield something. Cub would probably tell you to just bring it in or replace the meter.

The only number I've found associated with it is a part number, which when googled results in various sites selling the meter ($50 to $60!).

The other numbers indicated the voltage and amperage ranges (I believe). I re-installed the meter after taking it off and looking it over.

the brain may have gone bad. your lucky it's only the hour meter. my polaris speedo has the hr meter/odometer built in together, and the 4x4 is in there too. cost me over 300$ to replace.

That's a fact! Those cluster displays can put a hurtin' on the wallet. I guess on a positive not, there really isn't much to the electronics on these ZTRs. No headlights, switches (aside from safety ones), idiot lights, etc. Just hour meters that blow out.

So, I guess that is the consensus .... it just went out, no re-setting?

I would think so. You could experiment with it on the bench by swapping the polarity to see if that resets anything. Just a toss something out there guess.

I purchased a used Z-Force 48 a couple of months ago and its hour meter was frozen at 205.1 hours.(Note: the meter on my machine has only the hour function.) After some research I discovered that the unit has a built in battery source but takes its signal from the impulse of one of the spark plug wires. When I zip-tied the lead wire to the spark plug wire it started to function again, and has worked perfectly since.
