Anyone else do it? I usually leave it for the county to mow. But since it was 2' high and I needed to check out the new shear bolt on my Lands Pride rotary mower I went up and down the road for about 1/2 mile.
I did enjoy listening to the grass being cut and then had some trails to catch.

I do it. Looks better and it is a long wait for the county to get R dun. They do it twice a year, and mainly just to knock brush down and noxious weeds before they seed.

You really need to be especially careful on the right of way mowing, there could be about anything thrown out there for your mower to hit. Ken Sweet

I mow my 1,000 feet of county right of way on a regular basis so our property looks nice..otherwise I would have a jungle..The county here only mows twice a year..once int he summer and once in the fall.

Ken, You are sure right about the need to be careful...one time I almost ran over a computer monitor someone tossed out...and occasionally a glass soda or beer bottle could be dangerous and flatten a tire quick..

A tire is the worst thing to hit with a rotary cutter. A hit on one of them almost always tears up something. Ken Sweet

Y'all are right about the stuff thrown out along the road. The worst I've hit is plastic bottles and beer cans. I keep the bucket of the L3240 down and hope it hits something before the mower does.
I only mow about once a year and let the county take care of it the rest of the time. Unless its really dry and a big fire hazard. I don't want a carlessly thrown cigarette to ignite the grass then my woods.

It does look better all cut down though!

Sometimes I'll cut one width for a mile on one side where I ride my atv to get to another part of my property. When it puts on seeds they hit you in the face.

I keep mine mowed down and trash picked up on one side and the family that farms our land takes care of the other side of the road. Most farmers in my area do the same thing as the county only comes by twice a year and I don't think they have sharpened their mower blades since they bought it.

 wasn't really expecting that.
Gotta admit, would be kinda funny to see (from a safe distance...)

I mow mine once a week. It's just like a 50 ft extension to my lot. the township has never mowed.

A regular mowing bimonthly will keep it looking nice and easier to find the "trash". I wouldn't hesistate to mow more often then county does. I find that when I do it, the county would skip my area and go to the next. Quite often there are no ugly tree stumps, damage to a trees you want to keep, etc. when you mow it yourself resulting in much prettier property.

know i'm going against the flow here, but....my observation is that too many homeowners are compulsive in getting that close mowed look from doorstep to blacktop....and put themselves and drivers at risk in the process. the worst are rider lawnmowers shooting a trail of grass onto the highway while putting themselves half way out into the shoulder....but then again, guess i never really was a suburban guy that had to have that squeaky clean look for my lawn....what's really gained, what's at risk? bb

I can only speak for myself, but my yard ends at the roadway with no ditch on the side where my house is and continues for about a quarter of a mile down to another entry gate and keeping it mowed improves the look of my property and seems to help my wife's allergies.

My mowers all have hazard flashers and are big enough to not have to get in the roadway.

I live on 300+ acres, so I am not really a suburban kind of guy either, but I don't really see anything wrong with it.

Like I said, most of the farmers do it in my area not only for the improved look, but to cut down on weed propagation.

judging from the amt. of time u have for the forum and from the description of your equip., I'm sure you do a good (and safe) job.....i'm talking about the movers who cause me to swerve across the yellow line a few times a week on a 2 land highway for the sake cosmetics and keeping up w/the neighbors....that's the mentality i have problems with, risking others for one's own agenda...and it happens a lot ....happy mowing bb

Yep,my land also neighbor which connects, but the other side of road doesn't look so good.

I found its better to walk/look before cutting..bag of empty beer bottles sure makes a mess. :(

I can certainly understand that. I am fortunate to live in a rural area where most have familiarity with equipment and also take pride in their property. On my county road the yards really go right up to the pavement and it isn't practical to not mow.

Farm equipment is so commonplace as to be just another fact of life and if it is not mowing it is pulling a grain cart, spray rig, cultivator, planter or something.

Of course I am retired and things that use to bother me don't anymore. Retired people with no where to go and nothing to do when they get there use to really burn me up, but not so much now:)

I bush hog the sides of my looong drive but I know what is there. I do it so trees dont grow where I have to put my snow banks when I plow. No way would I dare to mow along the town road when the grasss is 2 feet tall. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff there, and I dont mean bottles and cans. How about rocks, logs, fence wire, metal fence poles and street signs, tires, rims, almost anything you can think of. I even found a dead pig once.
