Has anyone bolted a cutting edge on thier front bucket? I see i have holes for one on my bucket. But no replaceable edge came on my tractor there is one on my rear blade that i really like it can be flipped over so you can use both sides. I was just wondering i only have 10 hrs on tractor but hated to wear down front of bucket.

I bought a bolt on cutting edge for my Kubota 6' HD bucket but I put a tooth bar on and do not use the bolt on cutting edge. I should have listened to the dealer who said I really didnt need it. He was right

Loader buddy, cutting edge, or tooth bar. It really depends on what different uses you have for your FEL bucket the biggest share of the time. Good thing there is a choice. :D

I put the cutting edge on my bucket, it saves wear and tear on the edge and reinforces the entire edge.

I am glad I didnt purchase the tooth bar, the cutting edge seems to work almost as well, and I think the clay here would just make amess most of the time on the teeth on the tooth bar

The dirt I move isn't that hard that I needed a tooth bar but I can see for some that it's a good add-on and the teeth take most of the punishment and save the actual welded on cutting edge of the bucket. I saw wear on my bucket's cutting edge and contacted Wallace. For a very reasonable price, which included shipping via UPS, he sent me a reversable bolt on cutting edge with the bolts much cheaper than I could find locally. I have a Kioti CK30hst and even checked with the Bobcat dealer which was way more. It's a good hard piece of steel showing very little wear after much use. For my uses, the bolt on edge was the way to go.

I installed one on my CT235. I bought from my dealer for my 68" bucket.

My Zetor came with a bolted on edge. I had planned on getting a tooth bar immediately to help with digging, but decided to try digging without it. I dug about a 4 foot deep hole in red clay without much problem. Not sure it the cutting edge had anything to do with it or not, or if a toothbar would do any better, but it worked well with just the cutting edge. It also appears that the cutting edge really strengthens the bucket edge. I will probably still add a toothbar at some point, but it is no longer as high of a priority since it works pretty well without it. I am not sure of the cost of a cutting edge, but since the holes are there I would go ahead and add one on if they aren't too expensive.

The buckets are so cheap I cant see how the cost of a cutting edge is worth it. I can understand a tooth bar, but whats the point of bolting on a cutting edge to protect your welded on cutting edge?

I have $45 in my 5 foot reversible cutting edge and I've seen some places sell them for $100. I would like another bigger bucket for light material. Please advise where I can find these non-expensive buckets. Thanks.

I know this is a past topic but it is a good one that needs an answer…

I want to add a cutting edge to my frt bucket and would like a “Real Cutting Edge” not just a piece of ½” plate but I guess for what I do it would be OK.

Does anyone know where I can get a Cutting Edge local to North East Mass ?

Thanks,

I bought mine from Wallace tractor. Rick, the owner, posts on this site and he can ship it to you very reasonable. That's how mine arrived and it's as hard as the bucket edge. It's also reversible when you wear one edge down. Or you may want to try Upper Valley Tractor, also on this site and a little closer to you.

Are you sure you really want a cutting edge and not a toothbar?
If you are sure, ignore the rest of my rantings because you know what you need/want better than I, but if you're not, or maybe for the benefit of others I'll plod on.

For me, a toothbar is one of the best additions I've made to my Cat and I can't imagine life without it. (ok....a bit of hyperbole)

A lot will depend on the "ground" conditions where you live but having lived "north of Boston" (Ipswich) and now in upstate NY, unless you live on the beach I'm guessing your "dirt" isn't all that different than mine (clay, rocks, ledge).
In a sandbox just a cutting edge is fine.
In my "dirt" it's pretty much useless and that's where a toothbar really shines.

Not sure about the incremental cost difference between an add on cutting edge vs a toothbar but I'm betting we're talking short money.

Advantages (as I see them) of TB over CE:
TB really does let you "dig" in "dirt"....without it, you're pretty much limited to sand.
TB adds the reinforcement to bucket (as does a beefed up CE)

Disadvantages...
Teeth eliminate the ability to backdrag to a smooth surface using the flat cutting edge.
This is both a pro and a con since many will argue that doing so isn't really the best idea (potential hyd ram damage) and one could/should use the back of the bucket instead.
Rather than enter that debate, I'd suggest that by purchasing a TB that is easily removed/reattached (2 bolts) one can have the best of both worlds.

Toothbars are available from multiple sources and in various configurations and at a wide range of prices. You have already been steered to Rick Wallace who is an excellent source. There are others as well including EverythingAttachments and Markham...check them out.

Contacted Wallace T&E yesterday and asked about a cutting edge for my SCUT.

A bolt-on - Double Edge, 54 Cutting Edge, 1/2 x 6"? will run around $85 pluse $20 shipping.

I just found out my Bucket is even littler than I thought, it is only 49.5" wide so I asked them for an estimate, should be a little less.
They also will cut the holes and include the bolts.

Another site is asking $45 plus shipping for a 49 x 1/2 x 4"? single edge setup, so I guess the Wallace price is good, you get two edges, holes and bolts.

Waiting to hear the final price with holes and shipping, should order today.

Oh ya, went to their site, , there wasn’t much there to see but thy have a good e-mailing system and their rep got back to me in short order, I liked that.
We talked about the tractor and the use and they asked what I was thinking I wanted and made suggestions.
They have both raw Edges to cut to fit and Factory fit type, at least that is what I got from the conversation.

Thanks for the Wallace Site going to save me a lot of head aches and wear and tear on the frt bucket.
