I just received a new GC 2400 and mowed my lawn first thing. I had let the grass grow a little longer because I wanted to see how well it could mow, no problems going through the grass. Problem is that I now blow my grass all over the place which I'm not use to having a mulching mower previously. Grass also windrows at times and I had to go back and remow to disperse it, defeating the purpose of getting a bigger mower to reduce mowing time.

Questions is has anyone made a cover for the grass chute or is there a after market cover that I could put on in combination with mulching blades to create a mulching mower?

I just removed the flapper thing on the deck. I believe I get better dispersal, no windrows --unless the grass is quite high-- and it fits in its parking space.

You might like to try it without the flapper on to see how it handles it... just a couple of bolts.

I was thinking of blocking off the chute to help keep the grass cuttings under the deck longer and help stop windrows.

I too was looking for an aftermarket cover that would keep the grass circulating until it was finely chopped up. Couple that with a set of Gator blades and I may acheived a clean lawn.

I may take the advice and leave the cover off for now.

Thanks.

If you find out where to get the Gators for our Massey decks, please post. I have been looking for a while now. I have the mulch deck, which i like, but I think I would get better results with the gators. Massey uses a 2 blade system ( smaller blade behind the larger blade ), works some what.... but does not chop the grass very fine for a mulcher.

I am not sure how good the normal side discharge will work for a mulcher, as the true mulchers deck is channels built in the deck that causes the grass to stay in the deck to be mulched. But give it a try, maybe it will work better than the actual true mulcher !

So far I haven't found much on the mulching blades.

Replies from Specialty Small Engine said that they don't offer a Gator Blade that fits these decks. That was a reply from the Gator Blade site. My dealer is looking into it but I usually find that if I can't find it on the internet then it is not out there.

I took off the discharge chute which spread the grass out more. Ideally I'd like to mulch the grass up more and have it settle back into the turf. Also when leaf season comes my objective is to get all of my leaves back into the turf.

Thats the only downside to mowing & have to rake or go over the rows w/ my push mower to mulch. My john deer buddy reminded me to have the 60" deck tilted about one quarter inch down in front for blade efficiency.

This may be a dumb question, but here goes.......Why down in front?:ashamed:

I know we have all done it, but just be careful with the chute deflector removed. It is design to direct rocks or other objects to the ground.
These decks can easily shoot a rock 50 feet or more, possibly through a windshield, or into someone.

Don I agree they put those on for a good reason. I want to put it back on but on top of it spraying the grass better it's a heck of a lot easier to maneuver around things. W/o it I can get up close to trees, bushes with both sides of the mower.

If I had know this mower was so non-user friendly I may have looked at the Kubota better. I hear they have a mulching mower.

Confirmed with Gator that they don't make a blade that will work with this size mower.

The MF salesman told me that the mower chewed up the grass so fine I wouldn't notice...I should have known he make it sound good. He hasn't been as helpful since we completed the deal either.

Still looking for mulching blades if anyone has any suggestions.
