Can anyone tell me about the quality, durability and cut of the Kodiak brush cutter? I just saw a new heavy duty 10ft pull behind for $4k, and it looked well built. The price seems decent compared to the competition. What are your thoughts?

I came this close '' to buying one a few years ago. It had been the um.. most affordable.. I could find.. was going to drive down to a dealer about 85 miles away.. on the way up I found a dealer selling the howse HD120 3pt models. Found it for 2400$ ( tax not included ).. mind you that was 6ys ago.. but I'd at least compair prices now. I feel the howse HD 120 is more mower than the kodiak 10' .. which is more of a medium duty cutter IMHO.. but if you don't need HD.. and one is cheaper.. then.. you have choices.

We are clearing out our Howse inventory and just sold our last 10 ft 3 point Howse for $2400 last week. Going back to Hawkline/International that we sold for 20 years and they had good reliability, heavy duty construction and parts availability.. Ken Sweet

I like mine. it's had a single problem since I got it.. one of the 3pt lift pins broke.. you could tell it was a flaw int he metal by the oxidation pattern. put a new one on.. been good since.. have knocks a few fence posts and an off 3" or 4" tree over with it.. never hurt a thing.

Do you have the universal joint direct drive between the gearboxes or the rubber torque pads with 3 fingered yokes making that connection? Ken Sweet

rubber pads.

I have heard some have had problems with those.. but not me.

I know a guy that used horse stall matting to make some and it worked decently.

As long as the factory got the 2 gearbox shafts looking directly at each other, you will not have a problem, however I have seen many that were misaligned and it was hard to keep the pads in. I ran one just like yours, except, with the U-joint couplers and put it thru some tough brush on a 143 acre farm cleanup, with no problems. You got one of the good ones. Ken Sweet

yep.. that 10'er is good. the shafts must be perfect. I've had 0 probs witht he couplers. And I do inspect them every startup just because I've heard of problems.

So - does anyone else have direct experience with a Kodiak rotary cutter? I'm also looking at one as a lower-cost option. Seems like this thread took an immediate veer from the OP's question.
