5 Gallon Containers

I know this has been covered before, but I searched, and can't find my answer! Since our fine government mandated the slow-flow, auto-close poly-cans, are there any recommendations out their for ones that really work? I've got a couple with the sliding, spring loaded spout-shutoff, that are bound up in either the open or closed position. These things "urinate me off" to no end! Are there any out there that are worth a defecation?

This got me away from the cans.

Lunk- I think you mis-read the post by FHY. That's exactly what you suggested! A wood type screw, sunk into heated plastic, and that might work for the 'slow-flow' aspect, but not the crappy spouts. Now if I could resolve the 'pour' aspect!

LB.59-I probably only use twenty to twenty-five gallons of diesel a year (tractor), and thirty, to forty, in gas, (Lawn Tractor,ATV's etc.). So a full blown 'Fuel-Station' [very nice by the way] is probably overkill. All I really want is "A decent Five-Gallon Can, that works!" Thanks for letting me 'vent'....pun intended!

Schmism- Might be closer to my needs! Manufacture? Thanx! ~S

What is wrong with the GI 5 gallon cans--that is what I am using--Used ones at auctions, or flea markets are cheap. If they are good enough for the military, probably will meet your needs.

I use a homemade siphon arrangement, it works really well once you have the can up on the tractor hood.

The long end of the hose with the elbow goes in the fuel container, the short end after the primer bulb goes in the fuel tank opening. You close the red valve, squeeze the primer bulb a few times to fill the hose with fuel, then open the valve. Emptying a five gallon can takes about 5 minutes. If you don't have enough room in the tank for all the fuel, just close the valve and the fuel flow stops. If the tank end of the hose is actually in the fuel in the tank when you start, you don't need the valve at all.

No mess, no fuss, no fiddling with funnels. The best part for me, no balancing on one wheel and the loader arm trying to hold the jerry can for 5 minutes..

I got tired of spilling fuel, almost fell off the tractor a couple times, and decided there had to be an easier way of doing this. The primer bulb is for an outboard fuel hose, the shutoff valve is available at any plumbing store, and the copper tube is plain old 1/2 inch tubing, with 1/4 inch tube soldered in for the primer loop. Plastic hose (preferably fuel-resistant) finishes the project.

I hate these new cans...They expand in the sun and collapse when "trying" to empty them.

It appears that these were designed for people who have no business owning power equipment of any kind.

Oh come on now, you know the government has to try to protect those people from their own stupidity...

i have one of the ones form jegs and they work well, i was also at o'reillys and they had some of the 5 and 2.5 gallon cans with the vent less spout, the one with the yellow cap over spout (not the spring ones) any way they were asking $19 for the 5 and $12 for the 2.5 gallon. I know these aren't the best but they are better than the new ones on the market.
good luck
