So Chicago and L.A. are out?

C'mon now. Don't be pickin on Chi-town
Ever since they closed down the mills
You can now see as far as Gary!
Well , on second thought:)

Funny thing about Chicago... when you are in St. Joseph, Michigan and just about anywhere to the south you can look across and see Chicago. However, every time I have been up in a building in Chicago, I could not see more than a couple miles. However, on one rare occasion we were there by the Shedd Aquarium and it was a beautiful sunny day. I wouldn't have minded living there on that day. The harbor had sailboats, the water taxis were running, nice lite breeze and not a cloud in the sky. They really have a nice lakefront there.

The Michigan side REALLY is nicer, the sand is softer, cleaner
Don't know if you remember the Nike bases along Lake Michigan. Now that was a sight!

Nope. I read about them, but never saw them. The things I remember most about Lake Michigan as a child were:
1. the houses falling into the lake due to erosion
2. the huge iron ore freighters that were always present
3. the dead alewives that littered the beaches and the smell of dead fish

Ahhhh, good times!

Another thing I remember were the smelt runs
Lots of guys with Coleman lanterns at Montrose Harbor with nets, pulling in thousands of smelt.
Talk about GOOD eating! just fry em up with a little butter and salt, a little lemon juice....
Hold on, I'm getting hungry:)
