I am looking for a new tractor, I would like to get away from the montana, LS line of tractors and go with something more mainstream. I have a **** of a time getting to a dealer.

Required features:
Cab
Rear PTO
Rear Hydraulics connections
front end loader / quick disconnect

Summer time : mostly used for yard work on 15 acres, Brush cutting 5 acres , finish cut on another 5 acres with a 6ft mowing deck

some landscaping, post hole digging and I would like to add a backhoe down the road ..

winter: Road clearing about mile of dirt road and 1/4 mile of drive way... paved.

in my opinion, when these new tractor lines offer a 4 or 5 year warranty, that isnt very settling to me. and these warranties are usually only on the motors

kioti warrantees are 4 years, the 1st 2 years are on everything then after that its the power train.

What size tractor? What are you going to do with it? The vast majority of posts on the site have been with finding a dealer close enough that you can work with him. I really don't recall any posts that had one of the big 3 (big 4?) tractor companies had any models that were total "dogs". Giving everyone a better idea of what you are looking for will be helpful.

If you have any Mahindra dealers around you should consider visiting one. While perhaps not as mainstream as JD, it soon will be. They offer a great product and the best bang for your buck. I've used several of the mainstream tractors and while they're good machines, they just didn't impress me like Mahindra.

My neighbor has same deal with his montana, no support, no parts, no dealer. The deere dealer dont really want his montana 4340 as a trade neither. They already have one used on the lot for almost two years with no takers interested in it, dead horse. Now he is really wishing he would have stayed with the big three orange, green and blue. Most of the tractor sales being had by the orange and green colors. I would choose between orange and green models that best suited the needs I had and ease of operation. Those two orange, green have not been bought out or names changed.... In twenty years, there will still be John Deere name on tractors same as kubota, NH will probably be case/IH /fiat/nh or cihfnh

I noticed that in your first post you desire to have a backhoe down the line. Keep in mind that "most" backhoes are not compatible with a cabbed tractor. I would really like to have a dedicated backhoe but for the amount of time and jobs I will be better off renting and taking some time off from work. Now if I win the lottery.......

BTW I'm biased but I would lean toward either a JD or Kubota. Nothing wrong with the others but in my area that seems to be the majority of tractors.

Good luck.

Where are you located? That might help you choose good dealers in your area.

you are right but just for any bodies future reference, New Holland backhoes will fit on New Holland compact tractors that have a cab

I would recomend the NH, Boomer series if you are looking for a cab. They are the largest cabs in the industry, right now they have 0% 60 month or .9% 72 months financing, dont require any down payment W.A.C and they new CVT transmission, which is taking palce of the hydro trans is a great new thing

Regardless of the color tractor that you buy, as you noted, dealer support is the most important part in buying a tractor. Every brand breaks down, or we break something on it. If you can't get parts for it, or have it fixed, it doesn't matter what you paid for it, it's junk until you get it fixed.

The first thing you need to do is go visit your local dealers. Make it a point to go to all of them. A big mistake people make is to go to one, like what you see and never check out the others. If you make a firm decision to visit all of them, then you'll have a different opinion compared to just visiting one.

There is no best brand out there. All of them know what the other brands know, and they all know how to build tractors. It's not very complicated. What you are buying is the level of quality that you want, which means more money, and the level of support that you are willing to live with, which also costs more money.

As for your current tractor, selling it first on your own will always give you the most return. No dealer wants to give you what it's worth, because they know that they will have to sit on it for awhile and then make a profit on it when it does sell. Having it take up space on their lot costs them money, paying you for it, or crediting you the price of it towards a new tractor will use capital that they could use towards other, more profitable means. Trade ins are money losers for most dealers, and as a result, they don't want to put very much, if any money into a trade in.

Good luck,
Eddie

jdbnh- that's some good info and that's where the OP may need to narrow down his choices. If the cab is a priority then a search for tractors that can have a backhoe with cab will help decide which brand and model.
