Blizzard in Mid Atlantic

The biggest use item for us has been chainsaws. The Va. pines throughout the area are loading up with snow and over they go. Spent Friday night, Saturday and part of Sunday just getting our neighborhood open.
Snowing now and I can see two more pines that toppled sometime during the night, Aggggh.

Boogers :p Funny how Mother nature cleans out the woods every now and then. Hope the pines are missing the power lines.
Dave.

So far, we've been real lucky on that. Just getting the roadways clear has been the biggie. The ones I can see right now don't count. They'll keep until the weather clears up.

TLB:

We had a lot of pines when we lived in Lothian MD and now in Davidsonville. I made every effort to get everyone of them off of our property... The root systems are so week they are very prone to falling over. The oak/beach/poplar seem to do ok except where the ground is wet.

The novelty of the snow has worn off for me the dog and the wife...

I am no big fan of Al Gore but global warming theories indicate that one of the results for those of us in the Mid-Atlantic Region would be an increase in snowy winters due to the increase in warm water masses in the Pacific (El Nino Effect). Again, no Al Gore fan here but if Global Warming theories are correct then we will have more very snowy winters in the Mid-Atlantic area, not less.

Both George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson recorded in their diaries in 1772 of a 45" snow storm which hit the Washington, D.C. area. And lets not forget the 1922 Knicker-bocker roof collaspe in Washington, D.C., due to an unusually heavy 28" snow. Almost 100 people killed.

I'm near the cabin fever stage, yet have no real desire to venture out and see what's really in store for me. I spent yesterday adding some gold leaf and red to one of my other toys, needs a little cleaning touchups now.

Thanks, anything to add a little ray of sunshine to our lives? :D

We got over 2' here in Mount Airy last weekend and woke up this morning to another 6" or more. Plowing with the blade is mostly ineffective as there is nowhere for the snow to go, which means lots of FEL work (2WD gear shift, chains now on order!).

18 inches on Saturday, and 20 inches so far today.

The table was cleared of Saturday's snow before this storm.

I've cleared my driveway twice, and its already drifted over.

Went out and cleared some foot pathways, but it is still snowing here and there is quite a bit of wind. Snow feels very light compared to the last snow over the weekend so I figure it can wait until tomorrow.
