My Broccoli Grown From Saved Seeds

Last spring I let 3 broccoli plants go to seed. They produced pods that looked like small green beans. I dried them and removed the seeds from the pods. I got about one pound of seeds from just 3 plants!!
I planted the seeds and here are the results. I will be cutting very soon.

I saved seed from my squash last year. I will be starting them soon indoors.

I will be trying your idea this summer with my Goliath broccoli. Seed prices are too high!!

I do worry about whether saved seeds will always be as prolific, but we shall see! I understand some hybrids don't always work well?

"It depends" F1 Hybrids are first generation cross bred so they most likely will not produce the same strain when grown from seed. 'Stable' Hybrids are a cross that 'stuck' and will remain true.

If you want to practice seed saving it is generally best to go with Open Pollinated plants or 'Heirlooms' which are OP's with a specific history (common in tomatoes). But you also have to make sure _you_ don't create a hybrid yourself by planting similar varieties close to each other in the same growing year (mixing types of squash etc.) otherwise you might end up with some 'frankensquash' the next year.
