Fast dump?

I have noticed the that it takes a long time to "dump" the bucket on my CT230. When its cold its about 10 seconds and after it warms up its about 6 seconds. Is this typical with all the other 230 owners? The manual doesn't give cycle times for the loader. All the other tractors that I've used have a two speed dump and the joystick fells like it has two postions but its all the same slow speed.

I haven't actually timed mine but it is very slow. I would say I am seeing the same numbers.

I also felt the dump was a little slow, but haven't timed it and don't have any experience to compare against. I rarely run the engine beyond 2000 rpm and don't know if that would make any difference. The slower dump time was helpful when trying to spread a little sand over a snow packed driveway. I have a CT 230 w/ about 15 hrs on it now.

I thought that was just for the 3 pt... I'll give it a try this weekend and report back.

I am new to farming but I allways thought the same as GP that the knob was to adjust the drop/raise rate of the 3pt arms on the rear

Grand_Pooba,

A FEL valve with regen, should be about twice as fast as regular speed. Are you sure you are going into regen mode, as there is an indent/grove in the spool. It should be faster because you are adding the fluid from one side of the cylinder to the flow from the hyd pump.

The knob is just for the 3 point.
I you move your joystick lever slowely to the dump position you will see the loader gain speed and power if you shove the lever to the dump position you may be going into the fast dump position which will only dump fast if the bucket is loaded. Otherwise it is just like putting the loader in the float position.

Bobcat didn't include a hydraulic schematic with the tractor. It would be very handy to answer this question. JJ, I had to dust off my "industrial hydraulics manual" to see what a regen circuit was. Very interesting
My loader valve doesn't have a detent in the dump position. I'm hoing for some snow tonight so I have a excuse to go out use the loader some more.

Your loader valve probably does have a float detent but only for the arms, not the dump. I am guessing that you do not have regenerative circuit on this. My Montana is slow also. I have compared it to a 'bota L3400 which was very fast (too fast ). I like my extra lift and the slow speed is easier to control - and ultimately gives you more seat time.

My CT235 dumps fully in about 4 seconds.

Don't know if your tractor has regen, but,

FYI, here is a Prince FEL valve with regen, and it is on the curl/dump circuit. The bucket should dump twice as fast in the regen mode. You give up power for speed. You might not be able to raise your tractor off the ground using regen.

I had to plow my drive last night so I got to work with the loader some more. I'm pretty confident it doesn't have regen but it does have a sweet spot. If I push the handle all the way to the right it travels slow but if I stop a little short of there it extends faster. Not twice as fast but faster. My wife was watching me from the kitchen window as I sat in one spot running bucket back and forth....afterwards I tried to explain what I was doing...but she still thinks I'm nuts.

What you are saying, does not seem logical. Can you verify that you have float on the lift arms?

Would you do this test on the curl mode. With the bucket on the ground, curl the bucket fully down, by pushing the lever all the way to the right. Let us know if the curl mode of the bucket will lift the front of the tractor.

This time, only push the lever to the right about 3/4, and see if the curl mode will lift the tractor front end off the ground.

It seems like it would be a complex plumbing configuration. Are the curl and lift cylinders tied together in a self leveling configuration?

It seems like it would be a complex plumbing configuration. Are the curl and lift cylinders tied together in a self leveling configuration?

Usually this is done by mechanical linkages; you can do this using hydraulics but it does not tie the lift and curl cylinders. What you do is add two new cylinders in the curl circuit and they are extended compressed by the lift arms causing displacement of the curl cylinders. I will try to find a pic somewhere.
