I have decided to trade my 05 4520 John Deere open station for a new 4520 with cab. I looked at buying an aftermarket cab but after all said and done I would have about as much in it as I would for trade. Building a cab I determined would take too much time that I didn't have. I bit the bullet and ordered the new one Friday. I should get it about Feb. I am keeping my loader and backhoe. My dealer said I could save money that way because a used backhoe right now is not worth anything to a dealer. And besides they are both in really good shape so I didn't mind. I wish I had it already, really nasty out side. One question I have for you guys that have the new ones? Mine will have the e-throttle option that links the engine to the tranny so it will accelerate like a car. Do any of you guys have that and how does it work? Do you find it helpful? Thanks. Everyone have a happy Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year!:D

I assume you ordered the upgraded cruise for $99. and can tell you that the throttle is linked to the forward and reverse pedals, as you push the pedals farther down the engine speeds up. This works like a charm to me and I leave it on (selected) the vast majority of the time. I hardly ever need to use the hand throttle now.

Yep. Ordered the upgraded cruise package. They tell me it works like a car cruise and has load match. I don't quite understand exactly how loadmatch works but they say it is well worth the extra money. Look forward to getting out of the elements.

Just reread my last post and thought that I should clarify that the throttle and ehydro are electronically linked together rather than mechanically. You will love the cab and extra power with the new models.

Since you don't mention what make / model BH you have - just a word of caution. Not sure if the same applies to the 4x20 series, but for example a 447 / 448 BH that fits a 3x20 OS will not work with a Cab model. The seat interferes with the cab glass. That's the main difference between the old 447 and new 375 - the redesigned mounting bracket moves the whole BH backwards 10" or so.

I have a 4520 with the e-throttle. I don't use it. Step on the forward pedal and it revs way up, release pedal and idles down. For most of my jobs it just isn't needed and the constant change of engine speed is annoying. I could see it best for going down the road or maybe pulling a trailer. For loader work or mowing, I want a constant engine rpm. It is one of those cute ideas that didn't cost much since everything is electronic, but I just don't find it practical or helpful in my useage.

I have the 448 backhoe. Deere books says it will not work. I talked to a deere guy in Lenexa Ks. that said it would work. Deeres' own video on their web site shows them hooking it up and it working. I have a Mig welder, Plasma cutter, mill, metal lathe, and a case of bear that says it will work too! They were not going to give me anything for the hoe so I figured worse case scenerio I would just have to modify it. If I get into a job where I plan on doing a lot of backhoe work I will probably just take out the back glass so I can reach the loader controls from the back. Thanks for all the advise though. I will let you guys know how the hoe works out when I get the new tractor.

With the huge cost of a BH, the dealer 'claims' it is not worth anything? How can that be?

BTW, congrats on the new tractor, factory Cabs rule!!

Pics upon arrival please??

:)

The 448 will work on the cab unit but you need to get the new bracket that moves the hoe further away from the tractor.

Matt;)
