Old Corvettes

They look just a little nicer than my C4;). It's OK but they made about 10 gazzilion of them and it's undeniably the least desirable generation. To me, it's a POS in the Vette world. It surprises me when I'm getting out of the car in a parking lot and somebody walks by and says "Nice Vette!"....I can't say "thanks" without feeling a little embarrassed, I'm just thinking "You don't know what you're talking about"

What do you do for the shop?

I still think that 1960 model is the best looking one they ever made. A friend of mine bought a used one in 1961 or 1962. It was great, although with solid lifters and two 4-bbl carburetors, it was high maintenance. So he traded for a new 1963 Stingray when they first came out, single carb, hydraulic lifters, etc. Pesonally, I liked the 1960 better.

I like the first generation the best... Unfortunately, my 62 stays under wraps most of the time... about the only time it gets out is when the nieces visit...

Nice vehicles! The one labeled Black 64 I believe is a 67 judging by the side louvers. Sure are pretty.

Four old ones followed me home. They are neat cars not seen to often prowling the srteets. My favorite two are a red / red split window coupe and the 425 hp 66 black and black coupe. Another daytona blue 63 coupe and a low mileage 75 convertible round out the stable. Then of course there is the GTO section. I need a larger garage.
That shop does some nice work. Any idea what they get to strip and paint? Bet it is not cheap ! Thanks for the pictures.

Kernopelli: I do what's necessary, some body work, some mechanical some electrical. I am mech. eng. by college and wrenched on Jeeps for years - now Corvettes are bit different than trucks:)
It is one/two man show basically, the owner and me. We had one C4 there for fixing - reminded me of cheap motel - no offense of course:D but you are right, they were not the best built.

Bird: I agree. That's why I put the 1960 on the front page when I was building the site, one beautiful car even for European eye

Samandothers: One good eye:) yes it was 64 made into 67. Custom build with DOM tubing frame, four point in the back and LS7! under the hood. One freakingly expensive car, just the upholstery would buy you a nice truck:) - but when you open it, it smells like expensive suitcase - simply pretty.

Egon: - no comments :D

joes_427_vette: It depends. The owner gives estimates after he sees the car. You can always contact John and ask him. Not like we are super busy this fall/winter.

Joe, Nice stable/collection. While the split window is pretty and unique, I think my favorite would be the big block coupe.

I do like the looks of the older ones better and occasionaly I will see one on the road that looks pretty sharp. But in general, I have never been a hardcore corvette fan, they just don't impress me enough to ever want to buy one. Now, if one came along at a incredibley unrefusable price that would be another story.

You always remember the ones that passed you by. In 1960 I worked part time for a guy who had an "old car" for sale he wanted $500 but it was only a 2 passenger so I passed. You can only get one friend in the passenger seat of a 54 Corvette, yes it was a stright 6 automatic and it needed a paint job.

Yep, straight 6 with 3 carbs and automatic transmission on all the '53 and '54 models. Not a lot of power off the line, but pretty good high end. Or at least that was the case in 1958 with the only one I ever drove. My '56 Mercury Montclair convertible would run off and leave that 'vette from a standing start, and from a 50 mph rolling start, I could still pull quite a ways ahead of him. But then when my Mercury topped out around 120-125, he'd go sailing by me.:D

Reminds me of: What she called a Chevy was a sixty six Corvette

I don't think you can beat the early 60's for looks. I think the Corvettes today are certainly more comfortable than the older ones and perform much better. Here is my old Corvette (3 years old now):

I am definitely a Mopar guy.

But... I like the '63 Vette. And, probably most for a Chevy, the '66/67 SS396 4sp Chevelles.
Maybe I like the '63 because of growing up around a SS327 4sp Impala. Always liked that engine/tranny combo in a Chevy, next to the SS396...

I think the '60's were really something for the Vettes. 427 tri power running along a 427 Cobra...
