I'll soon be in the market for a chipper and I'm mulling a PTO-driven (70 hp Kubota) vs a hydraulic driven by a high flow track loader (ASV-PT100). It'll also have a hydraulic feed. Maximum size will be 6" (anything larger is firewood). If it's a wash, I'd prefer the TL version as it'll go places where the tractor might not.

Based on my experience with hydraulically driven skid steer attachments (mowers, tillers, trenchers) vs pto attachments, I would get the pto driven chipper. You will get a cheaper and much more powerful chipper driven with the pto.

Ditto this! A 540 PTO drive is much more efficient,a hydro setup makes quite a bit of heat,noise,and wastes a good amount of hp.The cost is between double and triple for a good hydro drive as well over a 540.
