On my tractor, as of just recently my steering wheel has a lot of grinding shimmy to it... this is happening when I'm driving the tractor straight, and let go of the wheel, the wheel will wiggle back and forth, about an inch, like a vibration...

I've checked the fluid in front axle: looks good

no noticeable leaks,

Toe in looks straight...

The wheels aren't warped....

However, I notice when parked and wheels are straight ahead: The front wheels seem to have a slight slant to them, like this: \ / ( not this angle of course, but I just wanted you to know what I meant)...

When I lifted the front axle, and rolled the wheels, wheels turn in opposite directions, with a slight motor sound to it, but doesn't sound like grinding...

Any suggestions?

Your wheels should slant in a little. Check the tire pressure on the fronts. If one or both were low the lugs could make it do that. Does the steering wheel move as the lugs hit the ground or faster? Do you have any trouble turning, like four wheel drive might be stuck engaged?

I am wondering if the nut that is directly front and center of my axle would be loose? I have probably about an inch of thread showing between the Jam Nut, and the head of the bolt? that seems like a lot to be showing... do you think this is making my axle vibrate back and forth, which is then causing my steering wheel to shimmy?

this is really the only thing I can think of... because everything else checks out fine.. tire preasure is the same etc...

Adjusting Front Axle Thrust Bolt Torque
NOTE: Adjust bolt torque at the required service interval to prevent
excessive forward and rearward movement of the front axle.
1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety section.)
2. Raise front axle off ground to take machine weight off the front axle.
3. Loosen jam nut
4. Tighten bolt to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft). Do not overtighten.
5. Tighten back the jam nut.
6. Lower front axle back to ground.
