Big Finish Mower

I can attest to the quality of the Woods Premium Line but they are pricey. My little old 6' PRD 7200 was north of 2 Grand three years ago. I wanted a 990 but did not have the tractor or funds. What are they running now? I guess around $3500 to $4000?

If you're mowing grass, weeds, and light brush, even the medium duty Woods are great. I sold my old tractor last year, and the buyer wanted my Woods BB72. I didn't really want to sell it, but he talked me into it, paying me over $100 more than I paid for it new. I would trade my new SQ 172 for one right now, straight up.

Instead of a larger mower with scalping issues and needed PTO hp, could you trade off for a narrower mower and just move faster?

What are the limitations of a heavy built finish mower? Can they be expected to cut 15" tall pasture grass without issues?
Mine won't, not on a single pass anyway. But I got pretty coarse stuff. In your case I guess it depends on 15 inches of what......

Given the price of many 7-8 foot finish mowers, have you considered a flail mower?

Yes, I have considered a flail. I'm actually looking at pull type 96" mowers because they can run on 35 PTO HP no problem. I have 37 PTO HP (Hydrostatic drags down PTO HP more than I thought, I have 48 engine HP and only 37 PTO HP).

The pull types offer a lot of width/PTO HP and hydraulic height adjust. only problem is they're insanely expensive $5,500-$6,000. And they're kind of long ar ~140".

Look at the caroni 7 1/2 foot bought mine for 1450.00. Think they are a little more now. My only complaint is the spindles(for the wheels) are a little small. I use mine quite a bit. 15 inck bahia grass(thick) would take 2 passes to look nice.

I had a 6' RFM Caroni for a couple of years. They won't hold up. I did not know a RFM could break in so many ways until I bought this Caroni. Pay a couple of dollars more and buy Woods. The Caroni is a tin can. It would break just sitting in the barn. Am I ever glad not to fool with a Caroni anymore.
