where to buy a decent diesel fuel can

/ where to buy a decent diesel fuel can #41
I just added my own vent to the vent less cans. Bought some metal valve stems at the auto parts store, drilled a hole at the top rear of the can, and removed the valve core. Hardest part was getting the valve to feed up from inside the can. I dropped a string thtough the hole and fished it out the spout opening, tied it around the valve, pulled it up and screwed the nut on.

This sounds really cool. Any chance you could post a photo or two?
I think I get the idea. I've thought about epoxying (Is that a word?) one of the valves they use on the bottom of air compressors to drain water. That way you could kind of control the flow.

There may be a few of the older style fuel cans in some stores that you might not think of to look in. I was in a family discount store yesterday that looked like they had a few of the old ones still on the shelves.

Just get a 15 or 30 gallon drum and a 12 volt pump and win the battle over the lousy junk cans.

Make sure You have a proffesional wire the little shed you choose to put your fuel in so its not a fire hazard , 12 volt or 110 , a spark is a spark . Wether Deisel is as dangerous as anything else . Is not the point , Lousy junk cans are much safer then a cobbled up wiring job . . Just My opinion . Pics say it all . Bob

i was told recently, but have not checked it out myself, yet: but supposedly NAPA has some vent apparatus that you can add to a fuel can to solve these problems: i will find out for sure this week. I do like the way the new pour spout works on the cheapo cans though, you can tilt the fuel can over all you want, an it won't start pouring till you press the lever: that part seems to work really well.

checked at the local NAPA an they do not have any kind of vent that can be added to a fuel can: they didn't have any fuel can nozzles either.

Going off of Lbrowns idea of the 15 to 30 gal drum, at one time I started getting my diesel in a 50 gal plastic drum. At the time a 12v pump wasn't in the budget so I bought a hand pump (the kind you crank). Worked well but after a few moments of cranking one day my mind started figuring a way to turn the crank some other way. I made an adapter with a set screw that I adapted my 1/2" cordless drill to, took off the handle of the pump, chucked the drill to the adapter and locked the set screw down on the flat of the pump shaft. Worked like a champ. No more cranking as long as I've got a charged battery. Of course filling drum can break the bank even offroad fuel!

I'm not so sure that running a cordless drill chucked to a barrel pump in the vicinity of a big drum of fuel is such a good idea. A 12V fuel transfer pump motor is sealed and therefore "explosion proof". If I look through the cooling slots on any of my drills, 18V cordless or otherwise, the motors "spark up a storm" when they are running.
