Towing Capabilities of the SLT 1554

Hi, just got this cub brand new a couple weeks ago its got a Kohler 27 Horse with 54" deck and hydrostatic tranny and I'm skeptical of what it can handle, I've towed a good bit with a Stanley(murray) 21 horse 5speed tractor but just normal mowing with this cub makes me wonder if the trans can handle any towing because of how it lacks steady speed going up a hill, and never had a hydro before. Looked over the owners manual and it doesn't say how much you can tow with it or anything, so hoping someone here may know.

1,500 LBS pulling capacity..... now I'm not saying, I'm just saying; that I have towed things (boats) that have weighted substantially more than that.... I think a lot of it depends on terrain vs. pavement.

It seems to be the right forum as a 1554 is NOT a garden tractor. Its normal for a hydro to loose speed going up hill as it is normal for them to gain going down hill as well. It is belt drive as opposed to shaft drive but I don't think that would effect pulling power too much. Have a great night!!

Thanks for the answer guys. I wrote SLT 1554 because thats what the owners manual reads but the hood of the tractor says 1500series. But I appreciate the answers, I'm just not all the familiar with hydro's but it deff. makes mowing the grass get done quicker but descently besides having the big deck.

Check out my problem - I would be very careful how much you tow with the slt1554
I pulled a swisher 60 and 44 inch pull behind mowers. Not at same time simply upgraded to a 60 inch. On flat ground no hills not a commercial job simply mowing my farm acreage.
slt1554 performed perfectly until broken rear axle. No warning at all simply broke. I am not putting down the slt1554 simply advising my concerns.

Ok, well thanks for sharing your issues. I'll just have to use the normal gear driven tractor for towing I guess, which is no big deal because it will go a descent speed without having to go full throttle, just stick with mowing for the cub.
