Two people were injured Tuesday evening when a fire broke out in a garage at a residence at 21264 State Route 676 near Marietta.
Chief Mark Wile with the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department said the department received a call at 6:20 p.m. from a man who said his wife was severely burned when a spark ignited gasoline she was pouring into a tractor. Names of the people have not been released.
The man, who was not in the garage when the fire started, was treated for minor hand burns at the scene. The woman was sent to Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus by medical helicopter.
The woman suffered second-degree burns on her legs, chest, abdomen, arms, hands and face, Wile said.
"I called for medical assistance on my way to the scene, and they arrived about 20 minutes later and flew her to Ohio State Medical Center," Wile said.
It took about 15 minutes for firefighters to get the blaze under control. Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department was called to assist, Wile said.
"The tractor had reportedly not been used in a while," Wile said. "From the evidence, it looks like a spark probably caught the gasoline on fire."
The garage was a total loss. Wile said he did not know what else was in the garage or the cost of damages.

don't store equipment in garages attached to you house, have a fire extinguisher, and let the engine cool a bit before refueling. put down the crack pipe.

Just found out last Wed. that the woman victim is the aunt of the husband of a young lady we know very well.

Actually, I have never refueled anything inside the garage, or any other building.

There is a reason why there are no indoor gas pumps, and every can I have ever used spills more than any pump.

LB: Do you know the rest of the story on this fire? Like type of gas can? Or smoking? Or any reason that could have caused the fire?

gas stored under a grill? That's darwin awards.

I'd figure on spillage alone refueling in a garage would be a poor idea.

Yup, it's morons like that that make us all have to get permits and licenses before we can do anything.
