I am going to guess the box is to receive a pair of closely spaced forks. It is obviously either meant to pierce or easily align with another object. The "one way" stays throw a real curve ball into the scenario. I would have said a bale spear or similar device but whatever it mates to is obviously not meant to come off easily....?

I say it's the first whale harpoon designed to be launched from a tractor

Hmm im not sure, but maybe its for picking up several cable reels. It would mount over a set of forks. the fingers would prevent the cable reels from falling off

How about a special tool for the DEA to ram it in a crack house and then back out tearing the wall out. Pulling the bars off the windows.

Seen something like that on a Mad Max style car movie. It pierces the car door or trunk and allows the other car to reel it in.

I will have to offer two scenarios:

1) The pocket looks wide enough for a backhoe bucket, so I think it's a spear of some sort on a backhoe. I like the previous poster's idea of a reel spear, perhaps for unspooling.

2) Probably the more likely use is a rather oversized olive spear for the worlds largest martini! I like the thought of three olives rather than two, based on three sets of retaining fingers.

Those spikes pivot up while the spearhead is being shoved into something.
Then, when the action is reversed, the spikes pivot down and drag something backwards. Stacked square bales? Nah, probably not.

I'm leaning in DirtRoad's direction. An anchor point of some sort. Look's to me like a "one use and done". With those barbs(?), what ever that bad boy penetrates, seems like it's there for the duration! ~S

Theres something odd. In shot 1 the 'lugs' are up and the barbs are hanging down. In shot 3 the lugs are down but the barbs are still hanging down. So it appears the bar has been turned over between shots 1 and 3.

So, is shot 2 upside down ?

Anyway, it looks like its designed to work in a horizontal position. The lugs and bolts dont look particularly robust but possibly it spears and rips something.
