I am having a problem with the needles that feed the twine into the baler. The needles should move outward as the bale ties but the arms dont move at all. Cant figure it out.

Its not my baler its my boss's baler and i told him i would ask online if anyone could answer my question. I'm not sure what the breakaway device is. Does the breakaway device when tripped allow the gear to spin then stop when it makes one cylcle. I'm not very good at trying to explain this. Sorry.

Yes, if the breakaway is tripped, the mechanism will cycle but the tubes won't. Tell your boss to dig out his op manual, or buy one. The tubes can be re-set by hand, but it takes a fair amount of effort. It's best accomplished when the gears are stopped about halfway back to the home position.

The mechanism never stops going through the cycle for some reason so if it was tying a bale it would just keep going and going. But I'll get a hold of an owners manual and see what happens.

never a a 640 baler
On other balers there is a shear bolt on the eccentric to the right of the knotters if the needles don't move it will not reset and the baler will just keep on tying Its normally a 5/16 grade 5 bolt

The 640 was among the first series of NH belt style round balers. Models 630/640/650/660 built from 1/1993 through 9/1995.

Well the baler is working again. I got my dad to look at it and he figured out what was wrong. So thanks for all the help.
