You are absolutely right we can go to any one of the other -----marts and buy things made in China, we do have a choice.
Good one!

I have plenty at stake in Dodge, look at the name I use on this board after all. I am pretty open minded, I won't just look at Dodge, I will look at Chryslers also. There is alot of good points in this post. The big problem is the economy is down and people aren't buying cars. There is no way to fix that problem until things pick up again.
If you look at the early to mid 70's, the same thing is repeating. Cars got to big and powerfull, and its happening again. I am one of the biggest offenders and I admit it. I have the mindset that someone else can buy the economy car that gets 40mpg and I will stick with a car like our 300C which get 27mpg with a tail wind. My Dodge truck with the Hemi is worse. My Sebring convertible is the best we've got, and it will only do 30 mpg on the highway. The problem is that rest of America thinks like me, no one wants to go back to a little car that does great on gas. The only way that attitude will change is when the government shoves it down our throat, which looks like its going to happen.

Charger...errrr not so much[/QU Charger, with a little bit of a stripping kit and a little more imagination for the future design I believe it would be a winner also. The city police cruisers sound pretty neat when they romp down on them and they are chargers, and they have a stripe kit on them just not the kind of stripes I like following me.

Maybe.... Its the front clip / headlights that ruin the charger's design for me.
Threres a couple cop chargers around here too, they look pretty mean with the dog dish hubcaps and push bars. But im not feeling the civilian models.
High pay doesnt equal good leadership.... Just look at the quality of leadership that the previous high paid management gave.
If Chinese cars were imported to the US though GM, Ford or Dodge dealers, as long as they passed some sort of minimum safety inspection, they would sell very well.
I wouldn't even sit in one.![]()
Where as today GM/Ford/Dodge/etc. meet some kind of maximum safety standard? You've already been sitting in vehicles that meet the minimum safety standard... just paying much more for it due to high labor costs. If GM/Ford/Dodge start making cars in China you will be sitting in the same quality vehicle that is available today and paying the same price... but the companies will be solvent and I guess that's whats important from reading here. Gotta keep our 'American' brands around.
I don't care what the commercials tell you, American car manufactures products are crap. They are missing 'attention to detail' and by the time you assemble all those loosely made pieces you get a big hunk of low-quality 'mystery rattle', 'little squeak' 'leaky' hunk of $&!#.
Every time I make a foray into a Big 3 car or truck I regret it. Even rentals... I rented a Mustang two years ago... what a rattly, crappy driving piece of poo. I leased a Ford Expedition a few years back as a test. In the dealership at least once a year for warranty work... a lot of it the same transmission problem over and over again. Then the whole tire deal where the dealer wouldn't replace the tires until forced to do so by the recall. Even though, since the news had just broke when I bought it, the salesman promised to change the tires out before we took delivery. Steered like crap too. Turned it back in and got a Toyota Sequoia, 6 years and 87,000 miles later and I haven't done anything but change oil/tires/brake pads/one battery. No squeaks, no rattles, still as air-tight as the day I drove it home.
I am not a Big 3 hater... I feel very sad for them, especially when they start touting 'quality' in their commercials.
