Good Afternoon Guys,
I thought some of you guys might enjoy some pics I snapped today of my neighbor using his old Farmall H disc plow preparing his sweet corn patch along with other vegetables he plants !

Its one of the last remaining farms near my Ct home, and the fella on the tractor is Gene Bomba, about 80 I believe and still plowin the old way ! They are great people, and often give me any wood from downed trees on their property !

All they own are Farmalls, mostly a combination of H's and M's along with a Cub they use for cultivating.

OK Bob G and Farmwithjunk, lets hear about this plow guys ! ;):)

Nice pictures.:D

I've spent many a day sitting on an H back when they were new! We had a revised platform on ours so there was actually flat areas to stand on beside the seat.:D

Looks like SOMEONE was having fun....! Disc plows seem to have had a regional popularity. Some farmers embraced them, some didn't give 'em time of day. They were relatively unheard of in this general area. It was moldboard plows for ages, then the switch to chisel plows of one description or another, and now ALMOST everything is no-till here.

The ole disk plow would handle tree roots and could do some really pretty work if set correctly. I think this model (which I have never seen in person) has a rod connected to the front of the tractor that runs under it (?) to steer the wheel on the plow. We used a 2 blade one a lot like this one to cut down and up small trees. Well up to about 4 inches in diameter. Would slice them right off, cut up their roots and stumps and roll the dirt. Problem was you had spears left in the ground.

I've only seen a very few of those disc plows (that have more than 2 discs). That's some great pics. I'm guessing that he uses that plow a lot on corn stubble. Seems to do yeoman's work on it too!. We had a two bottom disc plow for the 8N that Dad used for "new ground". Ie. after cutting the timber, digging the stumps, it was good for cutting roots, etc. and giving the ground a good once over. By the way, nice rubber on that H. Does he have a belly pump for hyds on it? BobG in VA

My dad still has a three point hithc disc plow he uses with his Kubota. It is the same one I pulled with the old Farmall when I was a teenager. Those disc plows are really hard to pull. My dad would get mad at me for running the tractor too hard with the plow. I guess it is a sickness, but I love to hear an engine running WOT and pulling as hard as it can.

Those pictures answered some of the questions that I had yesterday. On Alibaba.com they sell all kinds of those disc plows from China.

Great pics! I've got a 2 bottom Dearborn disc plow that I picked up a couple of years ago. It does a great job, I just wish I had more ground to turn with it. Call me crazy (it's happened) but I love the smell of freshly turned topsoil.

Sorry Scott, I meant they "Alibaba" had the same type design of plow. I failed to say the quality would be of the harbor freight standard. Please no HF jabs now, I buy things there also, but with a discerning eye I hope.

Wow I thought I was the only one to have that much enjoyment plowing. Have an old 3ph 2 disc ,28inch blade disc plow for the old 2000 ford. It does an excelent job in compacted sod, cow pasture, or with a lot of trash on surface to bury. It does a better job in most cases than a mowboard in sand, just slower. Wish I could find a 4 or 5 disc plow used at a good price to pull behind the Massey, have 25 acres to plow for a new hay field, old cow pasture, has not been worked in over 20 years. Anyone know what the hp requirments for this plow would be?

Ploughing may be enjoyable. Throw in a strong Cold NW wind blowing a few snowflakes around, consider cramped seating conditions, don't even think of a heater and add some cold dry dust plugging up the breathing passages and do this for 10 or so hours at a time day after day and then; think, Yes it is enjoyable!

I could not plow that straight for that far even if I had a laser guided tractor with military grade GPS. Years of practice and tons of patience I guess..........

When I was a kid we used a disc plow on newly cleared land specifically for it's ability to cut left over roots.
