Ideally, the vehicles would also be part of a communications network that through the use of transponder and GPS technology would allow them to drive themselves. The vehicles would automatically avoid obstacles such as pedestrians and other cars and therefore never crash, Burns said.

The only place this would work would be in an very urban environment with no other traffic but PUMAs. What are the odds of that happening? And GPS does not prevent a PUMA from hitting a bike, pedestrian, dog, etc. Unless we put in GPS chips in people and dogs.

Its an interesting idea with limited usage unless government at some level limits road access to these vehicles. Seems like the new GM CEO is trying to pander to his new bosses.

Yep, that'll save the company.

In the meantime the Chinese are selling exactly what the world wants. A fully functional, full size, family car that can run 100ks on batteries before it needs to switch to petrol. The average daily driver would never even need petrol.

So the government now owns GM and is going to build cars they want us to have and not cars we want to own. Good plan! More socialist agenda if you ask me.
