Hello, guys, I have been reading this board for about three years but have only posted once I think. I have a 4210 and am looking at the 4x20 series for more hydraulic capacity. My question for y'all is, since there is no hydraulic cap. difference from 4120 to 4720 why would I want to pay for the extra hp of the 4720. The little 4210 I have now has all the hp that I have needed so far, I just can't lift the round bales as well as I would like.

Sounds like you are thinking it thru. I had a buddy that needed a tractor and he went 4120 because the largest PTO item he would be running was a 6' shredder. He needed the FEL capacity, etc. That is one reason I went with a 4520 cab instead of a 4720 cab. I had a 4720 open station and I discovered I really didn't need the extra HP.

What all are you thinking of getting on it?

since I already have implements I will get the FEL because I have it now and it is indispensable, and at least one extra remote on the back. I'm not sure about the bucket attachment now that there is a skidsteer-mount? to think about. I don't really know what that does to my bucket choices. What is your opinion on the 4-n-1 bucket?

Can't tell you about a 4-n-1, but you'll never see the end to the use of a grapple, which 4-n-1's can be used for.

Yeah, I'm really just curious about the 4-n-1, but a heavy duty bucket with a grapple looks more like the right way to go. What's the deal with the skidsteer vs. QA loader?

I have had a 4120 for about 3.5 years and like it a lot. This tractor has plenty of hp for its size. If you were running some very large pto equipment, then more hp may be an advantage, but the tractor is not really heavy enough to utilize more hp for drawbar or loader work. Also, my tractor is a non-cab, powerreverser trans. which lets me put the maximum ammount of power to the ground. A hydro trans. or AC compressor on a cab model would result in some decrease of available hp and possibly justify a little more. The JD QA is not compatable with skidsteer attach but basically does the same thing and works very well. The JD heavy duty bucket is so strong that I use it for moving logs just by bolting a couple lengths of heavy angle-iron to the bottom and it works good.

Gotcha. I am probably going by later today or Tuesday to start the paperwork. btw, they are having an unadvertised 0% for 60 months on this model at my dealership

Two things for ya-

One- Our grapple is a root-rake grapple (with tines instead of a bucket for the bottom). It works great. It is better for grabbing logs and stuff b/c it has no sides.

Two- I believe the skidsteer QA is better. It gives you more variety. Deere has a QA that only they have. So, if you and I wanted to trade loader mounted implements, and you had the Deere QA, we couldn't do it because we have an SS QA.

You'll be happy with either route you take, I just think you'll be happier and more versatile with SS QA.

Thanks for explaining it so easily. Do they hook up to the rear remote or do I need something else to hook up the "thumb" operation.

Our grapple is run by hydraulic lines from the rear remotes. But, if you plan to run an implement, say a batwing mower, that needs the remotes, you will have to unhook the hydro line for the grapple if you are short. Not really a problem, but takes extra time. Hope this helps!

If I could do it all over - all my implements would be skid steer ones. I am already down the road, so screw it.

Well, I went and pulled the trigger on a 4120 today. 400X loader, hydro and automotive style cruise and one rear remote. Probably will end up kicking myself later in the year when economy tanks more but couldn't bring myself to wait. Btw, 1.9% for 72 months eased the pain a little.

Congratulations.

Since you ordered a rear remote - just a suggestion that you order the hard lines for the FEL - if you didn't already. It will give you more future felxibility for implements and probably be less expensive than adding later.

I got the 4120 last year with 400cx and love it... No regrets, plenty of power, I would only step up to the 4720 if I wanted to run a small bat wing.

I second the motion for the aux hose kit for the front end, it will allow you to use a grapple, or a 4 in 1. I just purchased the kit from JD and am saving my money for a grapple.

Alright, I will let him know that. I did ask if there was anything else I might want on it and he knew I was talking about putting a grapple on it at some point so that hard line to the front must not be common, huh?

I did call and ask that since they are ordering it go ahead and have the hard lines put on to the front. He has never heard of that and doesn't think it is an option from the factory. Could you be more specific as to what that is and who does it,dealer, factory, aftermarket

Thanks, cinderschnauzer, I'll talk to my salesperson about those part numbers. I really appreciate the help.

Just an update, folks. If it weren't for you guys I wouldn't be able to spend as much money. No, seriously, I gave my salesperson those part numbers and he was able to get the hard lines added. It's only hard lines down the loader arms ending in couplers at the front and then couplers at the back of the loader arm that the hard lines run down. At least that is how he described it. The kit price was 350.00ish. They don't have the 4120 ehydro in stock so they have to order it so I can order whatever I want(afford). But I guess with the economy like it is they are a little slow because he said it would only take two weeks to get it here from the Ga. factory.
