Oil & Fuel What kind of oil for a B7001???

Hi all

I posted this question somewhere else before but wasn't too satisfied with the answer's I got, so lets try it again:

The FEL on my older style B7001 is a bit jerking when the tractor is not level (front wheels driving up on a pile of snow). I had my wife calling the local dealer and she was told to use multi purpose tranny oil in the tractor.
What kind of weight tranny oil should I use? I use the tractor for snow pushing/plowing with the bucket and it can get cold here up north, minus 30 celsius is not very rare.
Is it correct that the tranny fluid is filled into the plastic plug beside the shifter? What is the yellow bolt for that's under the seat on the right hand side close to the 3pth lever?

I do not know the layout of your tractor.
BUT synthetic fluids are best in extreme climates, both cold and hot. It is my understanding that super UDT in Canada is synthetic, in the US it is not. Here it is only a multi viscosity UDT. If it truly is a synthetic you should get much better service using super UDT from Kubota. If the price is too high or you find that it is not synthetic up there, I would look at Chevron synthetic or Amsoil synthetic. KennyV.

First thing you need to do is clean the filter screen in the bottom of the sump, and when you refill the sump, use sudt oil. It sounds to me like it is starving the pump. A dirty screen and/or too heavy of an oil will cause the pump to starve for oil. It could also be very low on oil.

Is it easy and quick to clean the filter screen you are refferring too? I don't recall seeing anything inside the plastic filler plug other than a bunch of gears in a transmission. Please be more detailed how to access the filter screen.

It's cold outside and I don't want to spend to much time in the unheated barn shed.

I am not familiar with the brand Moto-Master. It may be very good oil.
The label should state if it is applicable to Kubota UDT or SUDT.
For your climate you will benefit using an actual synthetic oil. Find a source for Chevron or Amsoil synthetic transmission/hydraulic oil. I have read on this forum that the Canadian Kubota SUDT is actually a synthetic, BUT there are still some on this forum that think the Kubota SUDT in the States is synthetic, It is not. It IS a multi viscosity oil.
If you can not locate a good synthetic oil in your area, then you should look at a multi vis. But a good multi viscosity oil should NOT be priced as high as a true synthetic.
The clean out screen 638 referred to could be on a large bolt in banjo fitting on the suction line, under the tractor.
Should do it during a regular trans fluid change. Preferably in warm weather. KennyV.
