The Weatherman is calling for winter weather. The long lines at the grocery store and the absence of bread and milk from the shelves convinced me that it was time to put the snowblower on. How folk know that this is it I can't say. I spent a pleasant hour in the garage taking the mower and bagger off and bolting the blower on. Still looks like it could be rain to me but you know the smart rats get the bread and milk. I'm ready :D:D:D How about you?

A foot of snow in New York barely gets on the news anymore.

But best wishes to you and that blower. I'm sure it'll get you through.

When the news calls for 1" of snow around here, the bread and milk are all gone.

Heck, they even cancelled the Christmas day parade one day because they were litterally calling for 1" of snow (and didn't get).

Give me the good old days when it took at least 18" of snow for school to be cancelled instead of just the threat of snow:D

Hiya,

I thought that was a New England oddity. Hmmmm, I guess it's spread everywhere now.

My wife got both milk and bread last night because we are getting more snow Saturday night... I don't argue anymore.

Tom

He's just putting the blower on now? We've been plowing for a month and a half already. Winter weather has been a daily occurance a hundred miles north of PA.

I lived in Philly for 3 years and watching the locals "freak" at the first sign of snow and buy all the milk and bread from the stores made me smile. They would never make it through a real winter. :D

Heck - all but given up on the white stuff here in So. MD - been a few years since anything significant.

Even removed the RB and put the BH on today to buck some downed trees - maybe that and the PJs inside out will bring some.....

Projected snow overnight was supposed to be 6 to 8". Less than 1" at 5 am.
Do I take all the stuff wife bought back to the store today? :D

Looks like just a dusting this morning so it looks like I may have been a little hasty with the snowblower. I was starting to hyperventilate a little when I realized I didn't have any polish blackberry brandy but I'm ok now. :D:D:D

When I lived in central Maine it took maybe six inches to get the plows out. Now in central Ohio I have actually seen the road crews trying to plow an inch of snow.

In Maine about 10 years ago a friend of mine that works in a spupermarket saw two guys fighting over a loaf of bread in one isle while the next isle had dozens. Note to others: get breadmaker or substitute rice or crackers. Maybe get a freezer. Maybe some dehydrated milk. Maybe even a generator.

We don't have the problem of no bread as we have probably 20 local bread bakers in our city of 45,000. Nothing was open for 2 days, this whole area everyone jsut stayed home. There is not equipment to plow the snow so they jsut close the expressways down for 2 days. When my husband went out to the store on day 3 with our big Mercury Mountaineer he reported that there was no fruit and vegetables and meat was very low.

We got about 6 inches of snow Tuesday and it is slowly melting. We are at 43f degrees so it is going to take a while. It doesn't hurt our olive trees becuase it is not cold enough. We only have to worry when it gets around 10f or lower and it can even take that cold but not for a sustained length of time. The only issue with the olive trees is that if therre is enough snow it can break the branches. however we keep out trees prunned so we did not have that problem.

What the snow did mess with was the pergola. We are going to have to ask the fellow who built it to come back and replace the horizontal rods.

Excellent post, me and the wife could live for a month or more on stuff we have in the freezer and shelves. why do people get do hyper over a few ins of snow?

Makes you wonder what else besides bread and milk those folks eat and drink, doesn't it? I mean, heck. My wife and I go grocery shopping once a week. We buy one loaf of bread for the kids' school lunches and two gallons of milk each week. In the worst case scenario, if we got snowed in for three or four days, we would be without bread and milk for three or four days... so what? Drink some water (or beer), or make coffee or tea, and bake some bread or cookies in the oven!

We have a bread maker, too and flour and sugar and yeast in the cupboard if we get desperate. We also usually have about 10-20 cans of soup, some rice, potatoes, fruit, etc... and a bunch of stuff in the freezer, too. Good grief how these folks panic. Its not like any of them are going to starve to death in those few days, either.

Rox, that makes me chuckle. Does anyone in France have, say, a Chevy Suburban? Ford Excursion?

I can safely say that there are no Suburbans, Excursions or Mountaineers over here. Once while driving in the Riviera I saw a woman with Texas plates driving a white Escalade. Of course in the Riveria we see a lot of Lamborginis, Bentlys Rolls etc. There are a fair number of BMW SUVs but our big red Mountaineer does turn heads. Also empties our wallet when we ahve to fill it. Thank goodness gas prices have gone down.

What are they there?
