Metal-pole and canvas buildings make for great tractor storage sheds. They aren't terrific at handling snow loads, and do disintegrate when you accidentally run them over, however. It did well last winter, but took a few solid shots from the bucket this past year, so it was getting pretty rickety and was fairly crooked. I planned to sure it up before the snow came, but never got around to it. Also, after last week's double 10+ inch hit, I completely forgot to knock the snow off with a broom...oops.

Wouldn't have been so bad, except for the 30,000 pounds of snow on top of everything. Who would've guessed I had to actually cut the tractor out with a utility knife. Sheesh.

Check out the 500# chunk of frozen gravel that was stuck to my B/H bucket. Even a couple of wacks with a sledge wouldn't budge it. It'll fall off sometime before spring.

Finally, after about an hour and a half, my Kubota was free, and the tent was off to the tractor-storage yard in the sky.

I hate when that happens...

did you junk the frame too?

No - I haven't junked anything yet, it's still just in a pile. I'll probably try to use the tent sides to cover my tractor up this winter, and I might try to rig some kind of cover frame with the remaining tubing. I'll keep it kicking around in a pile in any case - I'm sure I can think of something fun to weld up using all of that tubing.

Well its pretty obvious what your spring project will be, you're going to build a proper shed for your tractor, right?

Wow! I can sympathize with you. Mine came down with the ice storm we had here a few weeks ago. I have decided to replace it with a shed with wood sides and roof. Of course it will be bigger than I need. (If I can convince the wife)

No it won't .
In fact it will be to small no matter how big you build it.

I was thinking of putting up a pole-barn type of thing w/o walls. Just a suspended roof - that should do the job nicely.

Even better was this past fall, when I hooked the corner of the shed (the one in the pictures) with the fender of my equipment trailer at about 20MPH, and tore the entire front wall (doors and all) off of the shed. I could see EVERYTHING in the shed - almost gave myself a hernia laughing. You can see the broken vinyl corner piece where the trailer punched through in the first picture. Good thing I'm a better carpenter than a tandem driver.

Thats the first and last thing I check after a heavy snow..My canvas shed...

Made sure to get the heavy snow off before tha last rain...Of course I stacked wood and pallets too close so all the snow fell down and in between the two, so here i was wading thru 4 foot snow pushing it out with my hands so the sides wouldn't implode....

For future shed builders out there, I built a 2 x 6 PT frame for all the leg bases to be screwed to, and also holds in the gravel quite nicely...

BTW jay4200, what brand? I have a shelter logic with the standard 9oz cover. remarkably strong I thought....

although runnning into it I'm sure didn't help.... I treat mine like a newborn baby, pulling in and out of the shed, as I don't want to be in your position

Good luck with the new one.

I built mine two stories to justify the construction. It has a playhouse for the Grands and young kids upstairs. Course I'm going to have to build steps or something one day so they can get up in it except by ladder. Want to build a deck on one side to make a cover for implements and then have steps up to deck..

It must be the year for this....
We went up to the island this past weekend to check on things.
I hadn't thought about the canvas garage because the one here at the house had no problems....
Walking up to where the tractor was snuggled in its garage I was surprised to see:

I initially thought a tree had come down on it. But on closer inspection it was just the weight of the snow. The roof was quite dirty with 18 months of tree debris so the snow didn't slide off.

An hour later we had dug the tractor out and peeled off the canvas.

No damage to anything (except the garage). It a good thing my new garage was finally ready with doors and all!
