Moving Snow With A BX

/ Moving Snow With A BX #22
I used my bucket on my 1500 to move a ton of snow (at least 24in+) the first year I got it. The next week, I bought the blower. It tackles that much snow without missing a beat.

Whether it's 2" or 10", it takes about 15 minutes to clear my 200' driveway and parking area using only a 60" rear blade. I usually do my neighbors' driveways too, to make it worth my while.

LBrown59, where are the pics of your bx1500 with the front plow?

I have a 2200 with front bucket and rear 48" blade (Yeah, I know... I was in the stupid department when I bought 48" instead of at least 60" BB).
We have a 1/10 mile paved level drive and while the most I have handled is 24", plus a few deeper drifts, it is small work for the Kubota.

The bucket easily pushes snow as others have said and yes it is a lot of back and forth seat time to get the driveway really clean, but remember, driving in snow also cleans your tires :)

Seriously, I push 3-4 times with the bucket on float and then use the BB on an angle, backing up and down the driveway another 3-4 times to completely clean it of any windrows the bucket leaves behind. Takes an hour or so comapred to 2 minutes when my neoghbor comes by with his Ramcharger and 7 1/2 hydroturn plow, but IT really makes my wife happy to get me out of the house for a few hours....
BTW, I bought a horsemat and cut off 5" and bolted it to my backblade with about 2" sticking off the bottom - it works very well keeping the blade off the blacktop.

ESCAVADER -- Did you get a snow blower for your BX? How did your cab project work out?

/ Moving Snow With A BX #27
Never blown snow before. Is the cab needed? Does snow blow over the operator or is the cab just to protect from the wind & cold?

hmm - unless you like getting snow blown in the face from changing winds , then cab is not needed.:p Actually, after using your tractor for one season without the cab will be more then enough to change your mind. On a windy day clearing the snow is not fun, doesn't matter if you using the FEL or blower, front or back, just being in the cold at an older age makes you reconsider. I don't have a cab and this is my 3rd winter season clearing the snow and where i live gets really windy at times and its no fun!! The only thing that gets me going is the fun I am having with the BX.:)

NYYF, that cab is too sweet to be true. But every time I see a rear mounted blower here I think,"that's gotta be the biggest pain in the butt, snowblowing backwards". I mean, visibility has got to be tough. I'd be smacking trees and the wife's car...

Yes I had the rear blower front FEL set up and went for the $$$$$$$$ front blower. BUT a cab with a blower front or rear, makes moving snow a lot drier and warmer and dare I say,,, fun.:D

Escavator - Nice cab. Thanks NYYfan for grabbving the post.

Got a BX 2200 with a cab and a power angle plow. Haven't found a storm yet that it won't push. I have a very steep hot top driveway and the plow will take it to bare tar quickly. Even after it freezes and we get another storm it will push back the frozen drifts with no problem. Think I'd like a snowblower though, if I can find one right. The cab makes all the difference when a driving snow is switching to freezing rain and the wife will be home from work and I have to get the 600 ft drive cleared.

What is the biggest snowstorm anybody tried to move with only a front loader and back blade on their BX? In other words did you tackle 6",8", 10", etc, etc at one time. Pic's welcome.

I think it was the winter of 2009-2010 that we had about 12 inches that drifted in front of peoples' garage doors such that they couldn't get out. My new BX with FEL and RB was envied as I went up and down the road lifting the snow out of the way and piling it up along the sides. It hasn't snowed much since.

I went from a BX to a cabbed B3030 because of snow and freezing rain. You will too when you are an old man.

Just plowed 7" with my BX22. Have a slightly modified truck plow mounted to the bucket mounts. Yes the bucket is on a pallet for the winter but I do have wheel weights and chains for the rear tires, also leave the backhoe on for more drive tire weight. Today after over 940 hours the steering went out.

Just moved 17 " today. When I got it out of shed and come across yard I had my doubts but they quickly vanished after I got a pattern going:cool2:
