Here is what I am replacing, This was my dream truck back in 04.
It only has 55k on it.
Main reason for getting rid of it is taxes.
This truck was great in everyway.
If someone wants a GOOD deal you can have the Chevy for $22,000 now:eek: or get it from the Ford dealer next week for I'm thinking $24,999.00:rolleyes:

That is a good looking truck. I love the F-450. What gears does that one have? Most I see have 4.30's but I have always wanted one with the 4.88's

Anyway you will love the Ford. They are very comfortable and tough as they come.

I know you do not buy a truck like either of those for the ride, but what does the 450 ride like? I have never been in one but heard from a friend with a 5th wheel RV and one, that the ride was way rough. More than the 1 T Chevy. Not starting a brand fight, just asking.

I drove it yesterday and my wife and I said that we think it rides better than Chevy.

I do look into the ride because usually when I get behind the wheel I go for...well my last trip was 1,161 miles round trip straight thru...So I am looking for comfort also.

One of the main reasons why it rides better than the Chevy is it has much longer leaf springs on the rear.

Man that would be great to have a decent ride and the capacity of a 450. I have a Chevy Crew Cap, 2500HD and the ride is okay at best. Heck of a truck for what I use it for just a little rough on the ride.

The 450 my friend has is a single cab and SWB which probably accounts for the roughness with his.

One of my brothers has a 2008 F550 crew cab, but he went with the long wheel base and likes everything about it except the fuel mileage and the diesel that gets into the crankcase. Diesel fuel in the crankcase would really annoy me about the 6.4L powerstroke.

I had not heard that about the 6.4. Too bad, ford still has 2 black eyes and a fat lip from the 6.0l debacle....

John, my brother spends the summers in Washington state and the winters in Texas. The first I heard of it was when he told me about it when he was getting ready to head south last month. But then my grandson who works for a Ford dealership told me they all do it, and I found lots of discussion on the Internet about it. So then I asked the assistant service manager at the Ford dealership nearest me, and he also said they all do it.

However, they do it to different degrees, so a certain amount of fuel going into the crankcase is considered "normal", but if it puts too large a quantity in there, they have to "fix" it. My brother took his truck to a dealer when he got back to Texas early this month and they said his is "within specs" but to keep an eye on it.

One thing about it, you never have to add any oil; just change oil when it gets too full.:D

Well, after a lot of research I found that to be far, far more of an internet sensation than actual disaster. Ford is still using the 6.0 PSD in the HD E series units through 2009. If it gave them such black eyes and a fat lip I doubt they'd still be using the engine. And, although it commonly gets overlooked, for the 2006 model year the 6.0 PSD had the lease amount of warranty claim of any engine in a Ford vehicle.

I too liked the ride and drive of the Ford better than the GM offerings or Dodge. My Dodge was a 1996 and I was afraid that it would soon start costing me money so I wanted to upgrade. It was only after doing much research and looking at the cold hard facts as reported to Ford by their dealers (not internet hype or trashing) that I found the 6.0 actually recovered quite well after initial issues. And, as we all know, GM had it's own initial issues with the DuraMax. To verify what I've said all you have to do is take a quick look here on Wikipedia Ford Power Stroke engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After getting a couple of annoying oil leaks fixed, I've been extremely pleased with my 2006 Ford F350 with the 6.0 PSD. Granted, a 9 year run isn't a particularly long run for an engine, but Ford will have used the 6.0 PSD from 2003 through the end of the 2009 model year. Lovely new federal mandates have already relegated the Ford 6.4 PSD to only run in the 2008 -2009 (possibly some early 2010 units) as it is being replaced by a 6.7 liter engine. Due to the short run, I'm sure people will demonize the 6.4 PSD in the future without examining the facts. I rode in a friend's '08 F350 6.4 PSD with a moderate program tune and it ran as fast as any diesel pickup I'd ever need. I'm sure Wallace will love his new tow rig.

I have heard of some stories on this new motor but with the 5 year 100k mile warranty and it being a secondary truck..I am okay taking my chances.

Fuel milage on the other hand:eek:
I got that fiqure out already!
It is called the edge with attitude programer.
I belong to a Ford chat room and guys are getting 16-18 mpg empty and 12-14 loaded on # 4 setting and on # 4 setting you regen cycle is cut in half.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and we'll see what happens.

Wallace,

Congradulations on the new member of the family. I really like the larger wheels that they put on the F450's. With the 5/100,000 warranty you are pretty safe. I have the 2005 6.0 with just over 70,000 miles on it and my out of pocket repairs are exactly $100 to date.
Happy hauling!

I own 2 6.0's and they have been great motors. I had a 7.3 Ford and a Duramax Chevy and they were both more problematic than the 6.0's. Actually the only problem I have had with either of my 6.0's was a bad dash cluster that caused me to run out of fuel a few times before being resolved. Not a motor problem what so ever.

I never meant to indicate that you won't like that truck. I think you will. And in fact, my brother is very fond of his. And he can't expect very much mileage with any vehicle, as you can see by what he hauls.
