GM Truck Warranty

I am guessing the problem with the Dodge trucks is what we all hear, very unreliable. Whit the GM trucks it probally has to do with the MPG. The Duramax was know for its 20 mpg and the guys I am talking to with the new ones are claiming 15 mpg.

It crossed my mind when GM reported losses. We bought a 08 Silverado and looking for 6 months I think we did the very good on price, warranty, and want we wanted in a 1/2 ton.

I talked to my investment guy this week and I asked him about buying GM or Ford stock. He told me it is a bad idea because they are leveraged very heavily, but I personally can't imagine GM or Ford going under. They are worldwide companies. My "gut" reaction is telling me to buy, buy, buy.

Don't do it!!! I guarantee you you'll lose big money!

The reason? I bought early in the day on Friday when F was under $2 a share and GM was about $4.12 a share. If I bought it, that's the kiss of death! Anything I buy immediately drops like a rock!

I honestly don't know the reason for the dissatisfaction with the big 3 heavier pickups. My guess was something to do with the DPF, but that's only a guess. Since I own one, I was happy to see that the 6.0 PSD is still has the least warranty claims of all 2006 Ford engines. :) On the other side of that coin, what if I have a lot of problems with that engine? Does that mean that all other Ford engines will explode immediately? :D

My guess would be Chrysler will take a bullet (or maybe be acquired by Nissan/Renault) and F and G will be 'rescued' if for no other reason than the VEBA is barely funded so a million retirees are without medical if they aren't Medicare eligible yet.

However, F and G might be "saved" like AIG, wherein the stockholders are wiped out by dilution (that is, the Fed largely owns the company and the original stockholders own only a small fragment, they are so diluted as to be wiped out).

There is presently tremendous pressure on stock prices as stockholders reset their basis in expectations that the new administration will crank up the tax rate on dividends and capital gains. After all, only "rich people" have dividends or capital gains...

Bahhh, I don't think the gov't will take over as a shareholder. What they'll do is give them interest free loans with very long "no payment" periods in the beginning until they get back on their feet. Kind of like the first bailout Iacocca secured for Chrysler.

Another thing- Toyota is in bad shape, too! Fox news just reported toyota experiencing financial difficulties.

I would love to see a Cummins powered Titan. I know it will not happen but we all can dream.

My neighbors son works at the Toyota plant in Kentucky, just south of Cincinnati. He told me back in August that the truck sales were hurting. One thing I did thank was interesting though is they offered the employees other work rather than eliminating jobs or lay off's. He said they were doing everything from painting bridges to cleaning up vacant lots and river banks for the county.

You would never see the big 3 think outside the box like this these days. The unions would not let them do it. They would rather see the company move or close up first.

I guess I should not call them the big 3 or American Made's any more. They are neither.

That's why the big 3 are in the state of distress they're in right now-the unions did them in. Toyota doesn't suffer that same albatross around their neck.

Kind of reminds me of our federal government. They have too many piglets and not enough teets. They're effectively bankrupt, too.

I really don't know where this all ends and what we're gonna do.

Chrysler owns it. ...........

I'll bet Chrysler Financial owns it, and that they are a separate company. If Chrysler the car maker declares bankruptcy, it does not necessarily follow that Chrysler Financial is going to be part of the court proceedings, or that they will renegotiate your contract. The corporate world is very good about protecting their interests. Our interests, not so good.
