Yesterday was a wonderful day here in New Hampshire so we decided to do a short mountain climb up Mt Major. Mount Major is near West Alton and provides some nice views of Lake Winnipesaukee

Summit elevation is around 1780 feet and the climb is around 1100 feet. We took the Blue trail up and it was a rather easy climb with only the last 4/10 of a mile a bit steep and all rock. Temperature was in the 60's and sunny!

This picture was taken about half way up.

Rock shelter built on the summit back in the early 1920's the roof blew off the first winter and a second roof was added but only lasted about two years. The rock does provide some shelter from the winds when climbing in the winter time.

Nice photos, Wayne. Of all the pictures, I think I like the first one with the swatch of sun-washed leaf colors. The third photo is also very nice with the pool of rainwater in the rocks and the lake below. All the pictures are nice, but those are my favorites because of their composition.:)

Thanks Jim, just a cheap camera and poor photographer I am afraid. We enjoy the climb up and coming down was okay, we just hated to leave. This time of the year any sunny warm day we get is certainly gravy time for us.

Boy do those pictures bring back memories. I have been hiking that mountain since I was a 6yr old boy scout.

It's a great mountain with incredible views, now if only they would expand their parking it would be perfect.

Great place to take a hike Wayne. I'm not sure an old guy like me would make it up there. :D

Come on now, olde guys can walk up a hill. Now I am only 62 and it did take me about an hour and twenty minutes up and about forty minutes coming down. My son (25) could make it up in less than an hour for sure, seems like he was stopping and taking a rest to wait on us to catch up.

By the way this is a good climb to prep yourself for the above 4,000 feet climbs and there are over 40 of them in New Hampshire alone.
