Flail Mower Can Flail Mowers be attached to Backhoes??

Can a small sized flail mower be attached to a backhoe on my 34hp Kubota?? US Mower website has pictures of flail mowers and the title says excavators/backhoes but don't have a picture of them actually attached to a backhoe.

How would you get the PTO to the mower? Other than that what would the atvantage in setting up the mower on the backhoe?

yes, bomfort, sp? builds one. It is a sideboom, but nothing more than a light backhoe boom. Thing is you will most likely have to counterweight the tractor having the mower extended to the side. The other is to have enough gpm to turn the mower effectively.

I have posted this several times before. This is one of Bomford/Turner's mowers and it does a nice job. Allows you to do tree trimming, ditch cutting, and bush hogging of areas that your not sure you want to take a tractor into.(or able to get a tractor into) About a 25' reach from the pto makes it nice to clear ditches and low areas normally too wet to support a tractor. It isn't as fast as a batwing, but also not nearly as prone to getting stuck when your pulling one. Duals are required on this one due to the size and weight of the mower when you reach for the extremes of it's capacities. Stretched straight backwards, you can pick up the front of this not so light tractor even with the generous addition of front end weights.

I've been tempted to build something to fit on the end of backhoe for light "far reaching" mowing. Self-contained 2-stroke engine so that it can be positioned in various attitudes without fear of lubrication starvation. Just need to work out the safety stuff - remote kill and some type of protection from flying debris. I don't think that it would go fast, but faster than brush cutter...

normally there is a hydraulic pump on the PTO (or sometimes directly on the crankshaft of the engine) and lines going out to the mower with a Hyd motor on the mower.

Other than that what would the atvantage in setting up the mower on the backhoe?

you can mow over banks and up/down steep slopes that would tip a tractor.

I have a 5 foot mower that came off of one of these type of boom mowers. I don't think it was ever used, but sits out in the back with a bucket over the hydraulic motor. I would probably trade it to somebody that had an extra 6' or larger bush hog, finish mower or maybe a flail in decent shape. Things below 6 foot don't really interest me, but ones over 8 foot really get my attention, as I am trying to get something to cover a lot of ground in a hurry.

It is a two blade, one spindle mower, not a flail.

Most Back-Hoes do not have enough Hydraulic flow to power a Flail Head.

Some of the newer hoes do have aux. hyd lines with enough hyd. flow to operate small heads...30-48 inch heads.

I have installed heads on compact excavators with success...I have also mounted flail heads to front end loaders using SSL quick thatch plates...with success...Mounted them on Deere 110 TLB's.
