had to move hogs all morning and afternoon.. made up a wood platform and welded wire pen and chained it into the loader bucket on my old 1955 ford 850..worked great.. drive up tot he pen.. set down.. swing door open.. run pigs thru the chute and then trap em in the cage... drive up onto the trailer and take em to the new pens down the road... after about 7 hours of this I was beat.. ( and smelly! )

Great idea. I love the single arm on your tractor.

That's a cool tractor. Do you put it in tractor shows?

How many hogs will the platform hold?

This hog carrier had better be able to hold more than the Vietnamese hog hauler.

It's actually a pretty plain ford. an 850.. common model.. the 711 loader on it is nice though.. will break out 3000# and lift 2500# .

I have 3 of those 1-arm loaders on tractors right now, and another 'spare' loader int he pasture waiting on a tractor to hang it on, plus another loader in trenton GA waiting to be hauledhere to florida to join my other spare.

They should use something like that on prison inmates.....I bet it would work really good there too!

Always good to see a well maintained older tractor. Wonder why they made this loader with a single arm?

At the time this laoder came out.. many loaders were large rube-goldberg contraptions ( like farm hand ).. or were 'jungle gym' style with pipes and tube frames all over the tractor litterally making you crawl up and over the frame to get on the tractor.. etc... plus they took an act of congress to mount or dismount the frame from the tractor as many were tied to the rear axle, and used a front hanger pin thru the front axle.. etc.... plus the hyd controlls were usually either a front pump with soft lines and no QD's back then.. or some tap on the tractors hyds that required you to bypass 3pt hyds...

this loader was marketed as being easy to install ( under 15 minutes.. you just hang it from a tree limb.. or use a jack that came with it to hold it up.... drive up to it and put in 2 pins and 1 bolt and it was installed.. plus some of the models came with self contained hyds.. the frame was the sump, and it had a small hyd pump that slid thru the hollow front ford axle pin and bolted quickly in place.. plus since it was mounted with only one post on one side.. it gave you good unobstructed view out one sid eof the tractor.. plus you could get on and off the tractor like normal. hyd versions o fthe laoder could break out 3000# and lift 1200# trip models could break out 2500 / lift 1000

I have 2 of the trip models with a 3rd on the way.. and 2 of the hyd models.. I routinely move round hay bales with them to feed my animals.

That 1955 ford 850 is actually my roughest antique tractor as it is my 'daily worker'.. most of my others are in much better (looking) condition ( it is completely mechanically operational though ).

the local pig farmer has something simular but its 3 point mounted. probably 7x10 or so, probably fits like 10 or 12 little guys in it. its basically a utility trailer with a belly frame that is 3pt mounted and a scissor type lift used to raise the bed to the semi deck height.

Can't argue with that logic!

2 easy.. 3 pressed.. 4 if they are real friendly... figure 80-100# hogs..

Maybe I missed something in your original post, but if that cage worked on your tractor, why not use your trailer behind your pickup? Couldn't you have rigged some panels up as sideboards and used your pallet as a ramp into the trailer?

Your idea is very clever, but seeing the tractor on the trailer made me wonder if the hog pen was not accessible with your trailer and pickup or if the ground was too wet.

Area inthe back where the hog pens are was not accessable by my flatbed or stock trailer... Probably was back when i built it.. but now my chix and turkey pens i built makes a lil bit of a narrow coridore for the truck / trailer. A friend and i actually tried to get the stock trailer back there and couldn't get close enough.. we would have had to make a long chute with hog panels.. 36' or more.. menaing 4+ panels and t-post to hold them in... so this was cheaper and easier.. took one panel and some bolt cutters to make the 'cage'. Even witht he tractor it was a drive in and scootch around ordeal... I probably shoulda kept that in mind when building my other pens over the years.. however I didn't really intend to relocate the hogs as part of my long term plan.. oh well!
The new pens are easilly accessable.. so that won't be an issue anymore.. Plus I can use that cage as a dog cage and just set it up in the bed of my pickup and take the hounds at with me!

I know it looks all redneck.. but it actually worked great! :)
