/ New 3E compact tractor... #21
What are the difference between, say, a 3520 and a 3038E. Aside from the the hood, I see the 3038E has 2 range HST and a lower rockshaft lift capacity. I assume the new "E" is an Indian made tractor?

A-HA! Its all making sense....Gamble77 said it would be VERY $$ Competitive...and by stripping down some luxuries like the quick loader mounting, operator station and such they will have accomplished exactly that. Its making more sense now I see the pic again...a "chinese knock off" of green paint as I originally suspected wouldnt have used the JD Loader QA "Shoes"....
IMO, if John Deere strips all the good stuff off to make it price competitive with the other manufacturers...then what's the point in buying a JD? It certainly won't be much different anymore.

You can still get the goodies in the "premium" series machines-these are the "value" machine. Just like Kubota has the B and the L's. One point of buying JD will still be the dealer network and parts support.

I got to see one today. Made in USA, with quite a bit of US content it looks like (several of the castings say made in USA).

I looked the tractor over really well and saw several very smart things JD did to keep the price down. Some was some parts sharing from other JD products, some just neat ideas like the simple mechanical fuel gauge in the hood. Front axle is new, and not quite as big as in the premium tractors, but big enough. Machine is built around a large central casting which ties the engine and trans together. Pretty cool. Same Yanmar turbo engine as other JD equipment.

It's a fresh design, which is good. Trying to make an existing tractor less expensive never works well. Looks like a tough simple tractor. Felt comfortable. Integrating the loader joystick into the loader saves cost as well, but was still comfy to use.

Should be a winner, as it's what people have been asking for.
