Hi Guys,

Im getting close to visiting some dealers and realize I am woefully unprepared to get in there and hash it out.

Here is what I am looking for. When I go buy a car from a dealer I tell them I only want to see four things on the bill:

  • Cost of vehicle
  • Dealer "processing fee"
  • Registration
  • Tax

This way they dont try any crap like paint protection, VIN etching, etc and waste my money.

What is the equivalent process at a tractor dealer?

Say I am paying cash on a CK20 w/ Free loader promo. Nothing else

  • Tractor price
  • Tax
  • some sort of Dealer fee? (whats normal here?)
  • Anything else?

Will I have to buy additional hardware to actually use the loader?

I know I would pay additional for things like delivery, loaded tires (whats fair here?)

Does a tractor that comes standard with a 3PH and rear PTO come with everything needed to use 3ph implements? If I buy a tiller along with my tractor what else will I have to pay for to use the tiller?

Sorry for the question spew but I am starting from scratch here

Thanks

Brian

Lets see, if it was my tractor and dealer....

Cost of tractor
Tax (optional if you can get a farm exemption)
Total

My check number

Balance zero, no payment for no months!!

there might be some dealer prep game going on like cars. I can't afford new stuff so I'm not sure. :D

the other stuff you asked about?

No
What's fair is what they charge or what you can get for free, these are dickering items :D
Yes and Yes, nothing for the tiller, it should come with a PTO shaft so nothing...

Keep them comming and welcome.

The state of Calif. also requires a documentation fee on a new purchase, which adds only another $20 here.

Last March I bought a new Mahindra 5525 tractor (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD) with the ML250 FEL (6-ft wide bucket, 2900 lb lift capability).

The invoice shows the price of the tractor, price of the FEL. The single option was triple hydraulic remotes, the next item on the invoice. On a tractor this large, double remotes are pretty much standard. The price on the triple remotes ($750 installed) was too good to pass up.

Delivery was free.

Next on the invoice are the rebates on the tractor and loader.
Next are the financing terms (0%/36 months).
Next is the net cost (new stuff - trade-in). I traded my 2005 Kubota B7510HST/LA302 FEL as part of this deal.

Last item--CA sales tax (7.25%).

No registration fee, no license fee.

The dealer installed three chain hooks on the FEL free of charge (I supplied the hooks and highly recommend that you get hooks welded onto your FEL bucket).

Nothing extra needed to operate the FEL, 3pt hitch or pto. However, I'm kicking myself for not getting a skid steer type quick attach option on the FEL bucket. If you want to do a lot of digging with your FEL bucket (not really recommended since the FEL is more suited to scooping loose material), you may want to be an after-market tooth bar that fits on the digging edge of the bucket.

Tillers generally come with a pto shaft to connect it to the tractor. Just be sure that shaft will fit (not too long, not too short).

flusher, what are the hooks on the FEL used for? Secure items too large to fit in the bucket?

New tractors should come with all the needed fluids for full operation right?

And unrelated side question: What are hyrdaulic remotes used for? What types of implements need those?

Thanks

Hooks have a lot of uses. Like this one

I'm using the central bucket hook on the Mahindra 5525 to lift an old 900 lb concrete post off the jobsite where I'm constructing a new equipment shed for the 5525 and a bunch of haying equipment I recently bought.

The hooks come in handy for moving unusual stuff like frame sections for a shed I build a few years ago

I used the hooks on my Kubota B7510HST/LA302 FEL for that job.

The remote hydraulics are needed whenever there's some sort of hydraulic apparatus on an implement. For example, my Allis Chalmers 80T sicklebar mower has a hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower the cutter bar.

My MF-124 two-twine square hay baler has a hyd cylinder to raise and lower the pickup mechanism on the front of the baler.

I'll be adding a hyd cylinder to an old Minneapolis Moline P3-6 grain drill that I'm restoring now. The hydraulics raise and lower the opener discs that cut grooves in the soil for the seed and fertilizer.

Many TBNers add dual Top n' Tilt cylinders to the 3 point hitch on their tractors to adjust the tilt of implements hanging on the lift arms.

And, yes, new tractor are filled with all the necessary fluids on delivery.

Or at least they are supposed to be.
SO due to occasional mess ups it's a good idea to check all fluid levels and greese fittings .

Wow, I'd say relax a little. This is not a car purchase. Not to say that tractors are nothing like cars, but I sell tractors, and lemme tell ya, I could never sell cars.

If your 3 point hitch pins aren't there, your dealer owes them to you.

In most states, you'll never get a title. New Holland issues certificates of origin which are useless unless it's full-sized backhoe and you're going to get a title so you can get a Special Mobile Equipment plate.

Relax. Has your dealer been in business for 10 or 20 years? If you need a lynch pin, he'll be there to back you up.

Shake hands with your salesman (or saleswoman, even though I consider myself to be a salesman). This is still a business where someone's word and a handshake hold a little something.

A "Dealer Processing Fee" is completely unneeded. If you finance, New Holland Credit or AgriCredit will charge fees to process the UCC filings (filing a lien) and a paperwork processing fee, even though it's the dealer who does it, and I flat out call them "***" fees, as in "that's the extent of your *** fees." Other than sales tax, we don't charge for delivery or set up or keys or processing.

It should be TRACTOR, SALES TAX, CHECK #, BALANCE ZERO like that astute poster above said.

Don't put up with "car salesman" ****. They're tractors.

Great information flusher! A picture is worth a thousand worlds...or at least a reason to add something to a tractor! :)

So...tractors in the CK20 class typically come with one rear remote, to utilize something like a backhoe? Or do you need to add more lines/hookups etc when you purchase a backhoe?

That small of a tractor doesn't have a standard rear remote, but if you're getting a backhoe, get the valve.
