Michael,
Great progress and time does fly by.
I see you are ahead of me with your wood floors going down.
But I am slowly catching up, I think. When are they going to start putting all the electric switches and lights in?
That brick on your home sure looks grand!

Thanks Rob!

Glad to hear you are moving right along! Have you posted anything lately and I've missed it?

Electrical - probably another 2 weeks unless we absolutely want some stuff put in. Electrician prefers to wait til after painting is done...

We love the brick! Hope to get it "cleaned" but was quoted about $1200 so not anytime soon!

Looking great Michael!

Heck, I was on page 4 myself. It's getting harder to find interesting things to post. I'm just watching things grow. Veggies and Chickens.

Now, you on the other hand, you've got some interesting things going on, and will likely have great tractor projects coming up. So you have no excuse to fall to page 4 !!! :p

Tony!

Already putting the 'bota to use. Had a dump load of mulch dropped off. Was a breeze spreading that around the bank at the pool with the FEL. More to come!

Looking great Michael! Thanks for sharing the progress, now what is the upcoming schedule? Complete flooring, then cabinets and trim, finish plumbing and electrical.....

Do you have a completion date yet?

Thanks Jonathan!

Schedule (as usual with us) is open. No final date yet but hoping for the end of the month.

I'm thinking -

Complete flooring
Cabinets and Trim
Paint
Finish Flooring, plumbing and electrical... not sure what order if not concurrently...

/ Starting New House! Finally! #365
Michael,
Interesting to note that your contractor does the flooring before the rest is finished.
Mine wanted the floors as the very last thing installed? He's waiting for the granite and tile guys to finish up so he can get going on it.

Hi Rob!

We/I am the contractor and I guess I didn't/don't know any better! :)

Seriously - my main sub did my framing, is doing the floor, knew and brought in the drywall and tile guy, is doing the trim and just brought in the paint guy. So though he isn't the contractor I have basically left the flow of work up to him.

I assume I'm not "harming" anything in the flow we are going, just have to be careful not to damage the floor. Correct?

Heck, you're asking the wrong guy, but I assume you are right. My contractor told me he puts the floors in last so they see the least traffic and it avoids having stuff spilled, dropped or gouged that way. Guess he knows better than me, that's for sure.:)
Looks like you're doing a great job as your own contractor.
I wouldn't know where to start. I barely know how to run a screwdriver.

/ Starting New House! Finally! #369
I'm not buying that Rob can barely use a screwdriver....I've seen too much of his work ;)

Our floors went in pretty early too. Before painting, which surprisec me. They got a good bit of paint and marks in them, but the sander came in at the end and cleaned them up real nice. Seems like it would have left sawdust in the new paint or something....but we didn't have any issues.

Michael,

Its about time you got out of that pool and posted an update!!!:D I can see Cindy in one of the pictures picking up your potato chip bags you left around the pool. ;)

Everything looks great!

I was painting when our hardwoods were put down. I bought a roll of contractors paper and put down all over the floors. Once I finished painting the floors were sanded and two coats of poly put down. Then when everything was finished ( I still have a couple if interior doos to paint:eek: )and appliances were in we did the final sanding and last coat of poly.

Ya doin good.

I can't believe it has been 2 months since I posted! Holy cow!!

Only have a few minutes so here are some VERY random pics and a quick update....

Hope to have first attempt at Final Inspection on Wednesday. If we get CO, we close on Friday and move in this weekend! If we do not pass on Wednesday, due to mine and wife's schedules, we may not be able to go at it a 2nd time til next week. Fingers crossed!

Hope everyone is well and having a great summer!

Great hearing from you!!!!!

Nice to hear things are almost done and you're just one inspection away from being able to move in. What's really fun is figuring out where to put everything and turning the house into your home.

Congrats,
Eddie

Wow! I missed you guys!!!

Thanks for the kind words.

As far as being close, it feels both good and anxious. My inspector isn't the uh, "best" or "nicest" so anxious to what he'll say. Also, got a issue of a leaking whirlpool with parts not due in til tomorrow so looks like FI is gonna be delayed another day... Sigh... BUT we'll get there!!

/ Starting New House! Finally! #375
Michael,

Good luck with the FI. Can't wait to see more pics of the finished homestead.
We've been in our home a year and just had a 11000 sqft concrete driveway installed and in another week or so some landscaping will be done.... I guess my point is it all takes time to complete. Enjoy the process, its all worth it in the end.

Hi Jonathan!

That's good to know! We are not paving about 300-400 feet of our drive with the intent to do so later... And landscaping is ALWAYS an ongoing and neverending process...

I'll try to get pics up soon!

Any more of your place? I've lost all track of threads/posts. Found mine on like page 11 or 12. Sheesh!

Your thread WAS buried in the bowels of the project section. I've checked for updates a few times but have been inactive this summer as I'm sure a lot of members are. I didn't have my tractor when we built so I didn't have a thread just a link to a photobucket site. I'll have to add the driveway pics and let you know where to look. Looking forward to hearing from you with good news about a closing date!

DONE! FINISH! Well passed Final Inspection anyway!!!! Took 3 attempts but DONE!!! WOOO-HOOOO!!!! H#$& YEAH!!!

OK - Deep breath... Passed final today. Get CO tomorrow. Start moving stuff in Friday night. Most likely will sleep there Friday and finish up moving most stuff Saturday. Now - there are some asthetic things (a little paint here, entertainment centers aren't complete, mantle not in, etc) but it is very livable. More so than the boxes we've been living out of the last few months! Final touch up around trim and the final buff out of the hardwoods needs to happen tomorrow for all that to happen as well.

Anywho - pics attached. No particular order. Some taken yesterday, some a few days ago. Pics aren't my usual cleaned up, straightened, etc - just uploaded as is!

I'll stay in touch as we finish up some things, clean up a LOT of things, especially the outside (SO much trash...).

Hey Michael, CONGRATULATIONS man! You and your wife must be loving life right now.
Wow, those photos are really good. There is a lot to your place and the colors you chose are very cool. I was checking out the front porch stairway and then the interior stairways and the rest of those photos, and I got to thinking that your place is exactly like mine, only different.:D
You'll soon see why I haven't been posting much on my thread because of how busy we are ... still moving a few things and also doing a few things around the 26 acre yard. Landscaping, irrigation, grading and leveling etc, and none of it is done yet. Heck, I haven't even got my machines running yet in the shop ... I don't even have the 220v 3 phase system plumbed yet.
Anyway, congrats on the final and now you can start moving all that stuff you have.

/ Starting New House! Finally! #380
Congrats! You are about to enter a very exciting time! Remember to take a weekend off now and then to enjoy the family. There will be so many projects for you in the next several years, that it will be easy to get lost in them all. Case in point, we're going out on Keowee this weekend. :D

When you have a chance, please post more photos of the red cabinets. I assume that is some sort of mud room cubby thingy. I have a foyer that could use that very thing, and I love what I see of yours.

Also, if you're doing any fescue seeding, remember we're about to enter the best window of the year for it. ;)
