International Harvester 584 diesel, Used
Model Year: 1980
I've only put 80 hours on the tractor in the six months I've owned it. So far no complaints. 60 hp, and TractorData.com has it rated as 47 hp at the drawbar, 52 hp at the PTO, and that feels about right, even after 31 years. I have a tiny battery drain, have to disconnect the battery at the end of the day, no biggie. Plenty of power at the PTO and 3-pt, FEL works great. No problem scraping 2 feet of heavy, packed snow (with good chains and 1,200 lbs of calcium chloride in each rear tire). I don't farm (yet...although the wife has some idea I'll start next year...doubt it). I've used the tractor to plow snow, to level and prepare sites for cabin, pole-barn, & band-saw mill, to carry and skid logs up to my saw-mill, and [with the Bush Hog backhoe I just bought] I plan to do a lot of digging: water-lines, perk holes, cistern hole, etc. It starts right up every time, does all the work I ask of it, maintenance hasn't been much of a chore, and I got a good deal on it ($11k with FEL and scraper). My only real concern is that my spread is a long way from an authorized service outfit, and I don't have a flatbed trailer to haul it, so major repairs could be really expensive. Time will tell.
Pros: Reliable, easy to operate.
Cons: None yet, but it's getting on. Could cost a bundle if repairs are needed.
