BX2230 Kubota
Great Tractor!
Model Year: 2004

This is by far the best little tractor I have used for the value. I do have an X495 John Deere that has a better cut, with a little more finesse built into it, but the BX has durability with great value. The X495 isn't 4-wheel drive. If it is tough going I use the BX. If it isn't, I use the X495. Both are great tractors. It just depends on the use.

Pros: Price, durability, longevity
Cons: Ride, medium quality cut

Great Machine
Model Year: 2004

This is the best piece,of equipment I have ever purchased. It has minor faults with the turn signal and light switches not being waterproof. The factory seat was uncomfortable and had a tendency to slide off the seat. I replaced the seat (100$) and do periodic maintenance that involves cleaning the inside of the light switches. Overall, it is an excellent tractor that I would highly recommend.

Pros: Engine, 4-wheel drive, fuel consumption, versatility
Cons: Inferior light switches

BX2230 Kubota
Versatile Yard Machine
Model Year: 2004

I have a Kubota BX2230 and have found that this piece of equipment was worth every penny that I paid for it. I am a preventative maintenance freak and have kept this machine very well maintained. I have been fortunate to be able to have it garage kept, so it looks like new. The machine is all metal so it is very heavy for its size. The belly mower provides a nice finish cut. I have a front loader (which I would recommend getting) that has enabled me to do so many yard, home and neighborhood things that I don't know how I would have been able to do if I didn't have it. I looked at a lot of yard tractors when I bought my Kubota and found that it would work the best for my needs.

Pros: Great running, good quality, great performance.
Cons: High initial price.

The Kubota seat had no suspension so I replaced it. The belly mower is somewhat difficult to install and remove but with a little practice can be done in a few minutes. The 3-cylinder diesel is very powerful and efficient. Love the loader attachment and it is easy to install and remove. For a subcompact tractor, I am very impressed with its capabilities and I'm glad I bought it.

Pros: Engine and hydro transmission.
Cons: Belly mower installation and removal.

Overall, we like this tractor, although I'm still not really impressed with the HST, mixed about it, I guess. Good power, actually I am impressed with power. We used to have an old Kubota and with larger frame it had less power than this one. This was used very extensively this past winter, plowing not only our own driveways, but two neighbors home driveways also, and we had near record snowfall this last season.

Pros: Power, versatality.
Cons: HST, just not overly happy, but will deal with it.

i bought this tractor new and have had it for 10 years and on balance its been a excellent tractor. i have the following attachments: 60" belly mower, front loader and a rear blade. i currently use the tractor for grass cutting (were cutting 6 acres) and also for plowing snow. It does a excellant job of cutting grass and will cut heavy wet grass with ease and go about as fast as you can stand. The only draw back is the tractor does not much of a suspension and does bounce you around if you try to cut to fast. with 4wd it does a good job of plowing snow and with the mower taken off for the winter its pretty hard to get it stuck, i've yet to get it stuck in the winter where i couldn't get it out. the loader is the best part of the tractor its only rated at 470# but I know i've had well over 600# in there and it has worked flawlessly, i use it for everything from putting things in and out of the pickup, to taking out the garbage to effortlessly moving 6 yards of dirt in a couple of hours even picking up the front end of my lawn tractor to sharpen the blades. the only bad thing i can say about this tractor is the lights and turn signals, these have all stop working after 4 years, pretty poor design, the water gets in the switches and they don't work. somebody forgot to tell the designer that tractors work out in th elements, but it is of small concern........great tractor, would buy again

Pros: Nice small tractor that does the work of a larger tractor good on fuel.
Cons: Only one I can think of is the lights and turn signals.

Kubota, Most Bang For Your Buck
Model Year: 2006

I've had my BX2230 about 7 years now. I have 5-6 acres of yard pasture to cut every summer, and the residual fallen branches/trees from heavy winter snows to pick up in the spring and not to mention the heavy snow removal of the winter. The BX2230 knocks it all out of the park in spades. The Kubota BX2230 is one of the better purchases I've made in my life time.

Pros: It's a compact, powerful and all-purpose use.
Cons: None.

Great Power House for Small Tractor
Model Year: 2005

Great little tractor but I could have been just as happy with a compact model.

Pros: Nice finish mowing, lots of power, easy to handle in and out small areas.
Cons: Ground clearance, lift clearance with some implements, without the front end loader balance is off for heavier implements like a 40" tiller.

BX 2230 Pretty Much the Piece Of Equipment I Was Looking For
Model Year: 0

The FEL will help me shape up the small property I just moved into, and also maintain and make improvements on the Mil's larger property next door. With the future addition of a front mount blower and rear box blade, I'll be set. Of course, a nice cab would only increase the comfort in the ND winters (lol). Maybe payed a little too much (10,250), but it was only a 2 hr. drive to pick it up.

Pros: I think I'll just agree with general opinion: lawn mower on steroids.
Cons: Only one: maybe a better seat in the future.

The tractor has always run great for me, starts right up every time but the implements are a royal pita. Plus parts seem to be VERY expensive and not readily available. Most of the implements out there need a more powerful PTO to run them. Currently I am trying to get the belly mower back on. Aligning the seems to be impossible. I came here looking for answers and see that some are having the same issue but nothing is working for me so far. So while I love the tractor engine, if I had to do it over I would have stepped up to something with a larger PTO.

Pros: Great engine.
Cons: Expensive parts and poor implements.

I purchased this tractor for home maintenance and mowing. It replaced a ride on mower with a 32" cut. I have reduced my mowing time from 4.5 hours down to 45 to 60 minutes. The quality of the lawn from regular mowing is outstanding. Our paddock now looks like a park. I mow at least twice a week. The Kubota has loads of power and with the hydraulics is a pleasure to operate. I will build my own loader for this machine to make it even more versatile.

Pros: Comfortable, powerful, economical.
Cons: Operator awareness system, electrics.

BX2230 Kubota
Great Tractor
Model Year: 2003

I love this tractor and would definitely buy it again. The only problems I've had, which were easily fixed by me, are 1. The two piece drive shaft pulled apart once, and 2. one of the rear axle seals somehow worked its way out, dumping transmission fluid all over the ground. I will say that one has to be very careful when using the FEL. Without counterweight, it's easy to pick up way too much weight. I've almost tipped over a few times. Even though I'm not the greatest at maintaining this tractor (bought it used and it's now about ten years old), it has never failed to start and has always run like a top, even at 15 below zero, although at such low temperatures it takes a long time for the hydraulics to warm up.

Pros: Turning radius, durability, reliability, ease of use, # of attachments available.
Cons: Tippy with FEL, needs a tool compartment.

I would not be inclined to buy another Kobota. Poor parking brake, jumpy forward and reverse, fuel clogged after 2 fills, plastic cracking and breaking not from operator use. Hydraulics insufficient. Snow blower was to have hydraulics turning and substituted electric motor. Replaced 3 pullies on mower.

Pros: Starts.
Cons: A lot.

First 500 hours
Model Year: 2005

When I got this unit new as a gift from my wife when I graduated from work, the dealer said you'll be amazed why you will find to do with it. He was right on! I plow snow with the loader, I roll felled trees and big rocks, I carry water in the bucket. I chip brush from and tree limbs with a Wallenstein chipper. Mow grass, move machinery, appliances dirt etc. etc. My most useful accessory - a set of chains. Just got a KK tiller attachment to replace my antique Troy-Bilt walk behind. This tractor rocks. It is a mighty mouse. Easy to handle. Gets into tight spaces but still surprises me with its toughness. It's not a small tractor it's a big tractor that was built small. Problems have included: - Difficulty finding a flat spot to attach and remove the loader so I leave it on. - A driveshaft problem with a broken pin where the drive from the main transmission connects with the input drive shaft for the front transaxle. The pin sheared twice and I finally replaced it with a bolt that has been in place for two or three years. - Difficulty doing routine maintenance - it's really compact and like micro surgery to replace the oil filter. - Center blade on mower deck stopped cutting this spring and I found the bolt attaching it to the deck was loose - scary.

Pros: Solid, solid, solid. Reliable. Takes punishment. Small but thinks it's big! Economical to operate.
Cons: Drive shaft linkage pin broke twice lost power to front wheels. Easy fix, cheappp part but down time a pain.

Kubota Tractor
Model Year: 2005

I bought this tractor last summer to be able to keep my hay field mowed and whatever other useful chores it lends itself to. It had been lightly used and sold for $10,000. My friend who has bigger tractors says it's a toy. It does have a small footprint but has worked fine. My only complaint has been it's been hard to get attachments on and off, requiring a lot of luck and jimmying. It came with an FEL, a cab, a belly mower, and a vacuum/bag attachment, and I bought a rotary cutter. Maintenance has been straightforward and it's done what I've asked it to, and it's been fun to use.

Pros: Small but hardy.
Cons: Difficult getting rear PTO attachments on and off.

My Little Mule
Model Year: 2004

Best little helper/tool I own. I have 2.5 slightly slopped acres with lots of live oak trees, a garden, and I'm landscaping the property around the house. My Little Mule has been invaluable, especially as I get older (64 in Feb'12). I've had a few problems the worst being the speed control pedal sticking at about 300 hrs. It would not return to the neutral position without help. Took it back to the place where I purchased it and they fixed it (sorta). They said the linkage needed to be cleaned. It returns to neutral now but is very slow, especially when the RPM's are not high. Running at roughly 3/4 throttle it returns normally. Also, the fuel gauge failed. But all in all, an amazing machine.

Pros: Versatility, power.
Cons: Traction, speed control problems.

Happy Kubota/Owner
Model Year: 2003

This tractor has been a blessing to my life. I have belly mower and front loader attachments that I have used heavily. The front loader has helped me cut and load wood, move dirt and rock and dig out from snow storms. I have also borrowed a rear blade from a neighbor that has been a big help for snow. The tractor has been dependable and the dealer has been good to work with.

Pros: Dependable, versatile, well built.
Cons: Too light for some jobs I want to do.

A Nice CUT
Model Year: 0

My 2230 has mowed and bagged grass for 8 years and cleaned my driveway for 7 with a loader. In general it is an excellent machine. My biggest issue was with the bagger. The shear pins in the bagger have been shearing. I think I have figure out a way to install them so that they do not shear. Time will tell.

Pros: Good fuel economy; Smooth running.
Cons: Bagger has design issues.
