Has anyone on this board ever seen or used a snow blade on a midmount ztr? I'm wondering if this is as practical and easy as this company states. Any opinions?

This topic came up here one time, and from what I gathered the aftermarket snow blades do work well with the ZTR's. But, I would have one serious reservation. Most of the makers of ZTR's do not want them to be used for pushing or towing any additional items, and clearly state it in their manuals, and have no accomodations for those accessories. One of the main reasons why is that the hydrostatic motors that power the wheels of most ZTR's are designed for moving the weight of the machine only and not masses of weight ahead or behind the machine. They also feel the machine can become unsafe or unstable when doing so.

I know my post will be followed by many who will say to go for it, it is perfectly OK to do and the snow blades work great. They will not be the ones who will deny a warranty claim or pay a repair bill if you damage the machine using it for what it was not intended to do-- MHO :)

That looks like a cold proposition. Might be okay in light stuff. I would be afraid to try it and risk burning out a hydro. Not really a cheap fix.

I've never seen one on a mid mount ZTR but I did see a crew of guys using them a few winters back on front deck grasshoppers, they had two grasshoppers and a Yamaha 400 4wd and they cleared a parking lot of 8'10" deep snow in record time.

I also agree with what the other guys have said about the hydro pumps, they aren't designed for the day in day out heavy use you are looking at putting a machine through. That's what tracrors and bobcats are for.

I work for a large landscape / lawncare company. We bought a few of those since our Exmarks just sit in the winter. Our plan was to use them on some sidewalks. This past winter was so light we never brough them out. My opinion of the blade was that it was very lightweight. I think you would bend the 1 x 1 tubing that secures the blade to the mower frame before the hydro units would burn out. A lot of that depends on your technique. Like with any thing pushing snow, your use of momemtum will preserve or kill a drivetrain.

I bought one from these folks last winter and only got to use it a few times, but very impressed with it.
The springs are set pretty light, so the blade gives before a serious load is put on the frame of the machine. The most snow I moved was 8" deep, but it sure cleared that area fast!
